Ive lost my body

hey people,
i need some help i dont know what happened but i left my computer and then came back and i had a black screen. i had to reboot and then log back in. the next thing i see is it loaded normally but i then could not see my skin. the only thing i can see is my beenie, necklace and shoes.
i have uninstalled, re installed the program sl and also tries clearing the cache all to no avail.

is there a way that this can be fixed? i have just today purchased land and i dont want to lose it and my inventory


any help would be great

Hi, Champ. Welcome to the Forums!

I think there's nothing scarier than usual going on here about your Inventory, so hope that takes some of the stress off.

I'd recommend a little more drastic clean-up than one gets when just re-installing. Specifically, I'd get rid of the settings folder for your avatar. Where that's stored is different for different operating systems, so you may have to go snooping a bit. (On Windoze XP, it's something like C:\Documents and Settings\windows userName\Application Data\SecondLife\avatar name.)

This has the unfortunate side-effect of making you reset all the viewer preferences to your liking, and click away all the newbie warnings again, but it should reset everything back to normal. (I'm guessing that maybe some Advanced rendering option got selected, perhaps by accident, that is making the avatar mesh invisible.)

Anyway, if this doesn't work, post again and we'll figure out what's wrong, eventually.

This has happened to me when there have been database problems and my avatar hasn't downloaded, but my attachments have - most disconcerting! Invisible avatar but just shoes, hair and prim skirt walking around.

i had to reset voice and video settings but no change i cant even right click and get access to my apperance.

hmmm... first, just because there was an old bug about this, let's be sure you're on the ground level when doing this (windlight used to forget to paint avatars in skyboxes; that should be more or less fixed at this point, though). Then, make sure the Advanced menu option is showing (or, depending on viewer version, it might be called "Client" at the very top of the screen (Control-Alt-Shift-D toggles this on and off, as I recall), then, from that menu, look for Character / Character Tests / Test Male (or Test Female; it doesn't really matter--you won't want to wear that avatar for a long time anyway), and see whether you see an avatar where you're standing. If so, then just reassemble your old avatar from the skin and shape and... well, everything else you were wearing before.

If not, then... I'd first try removing *all* attachments. (Thinking maybe an invisiprim is being worn to hide the avatar, perhaps a remnant of a partial change to, say, a tiny avatar, possibly accidental.)

Then, when that doesn't work , we'll have to try something else. By the way, do others see you as invisible, or is it just that you're invisible to yourself? And can you see other avatars fine?

i cant see anyone either all is see is hair and feet ,
after doing the male test my hair and shoes dissapeared so njow i dont even exist

Interesting situation- one learns something new here constantly- what is an invisiprim please?

It's a prim that is scripted in such a way that it literally ignore the avatar body and shows objects/things behind you. You'll find them used on dragons, tinies, and shoes most often than not. At least, I think they're scripted.

Log out. Manually clear your cache: My Computer<C:<Documents and Settings<your name)<Application Data<Second Life--delete the Second Life folder in the Application Data folder, then empty your Recycle Bin. Restart computer.

Open the Log In Screen, click on Edit<Preferences at the top of the screen. Click on the "Show Startup Location on Log In" checkbox. Type in "Sargasso" as your log in location.

Log in.

You should log into a sim named Sargasso, which is a Linden-owned void sim that is no-script/no-build/no-push . It may take awhile for your avatar and inventory to load, but this solution works 99% of the time for when I've had this exact same problem.

ETA: oh and while you're at it, reset your modem.

I had this problem yesterday. I thought someone slapped an invisible megaprim on top of me but after a teleport I could see myself again. When I went back to the same place I was still visible. Very strange and never had that happen to me. I was having a bunch of other problems too so it may have been the server.

We ended up trying all kinds of stuff in-world. Best I could determine, the problem was good ol' http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5948 , the ATI driver brain-damage with WindLight. Champ had another machine (with an nVidia card) that worked fine. Think he'll try downloading the pre-Windlight client for the ATI-based machine, 'til AMD can get their OpenGL act together (yet again).
