Some observations on the new Search funcrion, in the Release Candidate client and in the Windlight First Look client.

If you restrict your profile information, and uncheck 'show in search', the results are mixed. Some information that should be hidden is still disclosed.

It's unchecked for my Ceera Murakami account.

Searching for my name, I get a listing that shows the first sentance or so of text from my profile description field, plus my born-on date. Yet when you click on my name, it does as it should and now ONLY shows my name, and "This resident has chosen to hide their profile from search". The first result that Search gives should ALSO just list my name, and "This resident has chosen to hide their profile from search". It should not reveal information I have not elected to make public on the Internet. (It appears that this is slowly updating. I did another search and the returned results DID just say I was hiding my profile info.)

If you uncheck "Show in Search" for a group, which is the only way to prevent any groups that you own from being published, it also lists the first sentance or so of text from the group's description field, plus the name of the group owner. But if you click on that search result, you get an XML error. It shouldn't show at all in the search results.

If you go to a parcel listing for a parcel that has "Show in search" selected, but if the group that owns the parcel is one that has "Show in search" unchecked for the group itself, then the parcel listing shows ";(Group owned) (group), Owners" instead of the parcel owning group's name.

Checking the "Show in search" checkbox for a JEVN vendor that is in a parcel listed in Search does get a listing with the parcel objects. It has no price at the front (so it looks like it might be a freebie...) then lists a string like "JEVN - Ceera's Fashions - Calypso - CFF - Dance Your Tails Off T-Shirt - Blue - L$ 20". In the above case, "JEVN - Ceera's Fashions - Calypso" is the name of my JEVN vendor at that location, and "CFF - Dance Your Tails Off T-Shirt - Blue - L$ 20" is what the script of the vendor places in the Description field, when that shirt is being displayed at that moment.

Freebies and objects that are NOT for sale, but which have the "Show in Search" checkbox checked, show the name and description lines in the listing, and also show no price at the front. Torley's recent Search tutorial tells everyone that any items that are listed as objects on the parcel but are not listed with a price at the start of the line are freebies...

If you use the external web version of Search, and click on an avatar's name, it returns their UUID Key in the address line, even if the person's profile information is restricted.

Hopefully all these are issues they will fix...

Oh, and if you do uncheck the "Show in Search" checkbox for a group, that takes it ot of the in-world search too. Whereas unchecking show in search in your profile only removes you from the new web-based search. People still are searchable in-world from the other search tabs (people and all).

It can take up to 3 days for a change to be reflected in the actual search indexes.

How long ago did you hide your profile from search? If you change (simply add a word at the start) your profile description, does the search result instantly change as well on the next try?

I think you might just be seeing the time-delayed discrepancy between the index files (what shows up through a search result) and actual live data (when you click to actually see the profile).
