Multiple Transactions By the Same Avatar

I've noticed something odd lately. All of my items at my store are copy/mod/ no transfer. I don't have a system set up for people to buy my items as gifts, but I've been noticing multiple purchases three or four times in a row by various different avatars over the last few weeks. Since all of my goodies are copy, I can't figure out why someone is buying multiple copies.

Is this a LL glitch, or do you think the items have been bought by accident? If someone didn't mean to buy multiple copies and it's a glitch, will LL catch that eventually and adjust my $L? I'd also like to provide refunds for the overcharge if the multiple purchases are accidental.

I'd suggest checking your Transactions History first. I know many store owners print out copies of theirs regularly, just as a backup in case of customer complaint or query.

Jot down names and how many times they bought stuff. Did they buy the same thing repeatedly? I'd check the buyer's Profile in case they are a newbie. If they are, then kindly explain how to check their Recent Items tab in inventory for their purchase. Also remind them that the servers can sometimes take a minute or two to deliver the item.

You could also do a brief explanation of how to use the inventory filters to find recent purchases. If fact, save yourself some time and write up a basic 'How-To Hints'. You can drop it on a customer or put in a notecard giver at your shop.

Or those customers REALLY loved your products.

What is it you're selling? Would it make sense for them to buy multiple copies?

I don't advertize a refund policy. But when this happens I check my account and if all is well,Refund the extra.I have a stock note with a landmark l that I send with it.

I'm noticing a similar behaviour in my shop, someone pops in, and gets the same free item 3 to 5 times in a few minutes.

It's multiples of the same items listed on my Transaction's History so I know the person has been charged several times. I remember a while back, I bought some animations from a store and I was charged twice even though I know I didn't click the product or the delivery notification twice.

What caught my attention in the last few days is that it's happened several times now to different avatars and the purchase is always for the same bought item but multiple times.

I seem to specialize in lawn & permafrost art and useless background fluff, and dang proud of it! Wish I had a real lawn.

During the ETD sale I got several 'multiple purchases' at that shop. I just bought the items once so I guess it was because of the heavy lag or something.

I checked my transhistory and the timestamp of the purchases where just one second or so apart. I did the math myself and then contacted her with a transactioncopy. And she refunded me at once.

But I don't think she would have given me a refund if I hadn't contacted her.

So if you contact the customer asking if anything went wrong - thats really nice of you. But I don't think thats what shopowners usually do. They handle it if they get a complaint...

Could be the person isn't reading the perms? With anything dealing with "lawn and garden," many stores offer it as mod/trans. It's very rare I find mod/copy, so maybe this customer is assuming you are mod/trans?

LL won't "correct" any sales transactions, even if you ask them to.

Sometimes lag will cause a multiple transaction, or a customer will buy the same item several times because the lag prevented them from thinking the first sale went through.

If I notice in my transaction log duplicate purchases of a copyable item just seconds apart by the same avatar, I will usually try to contact them to see if they accidentally bought the same item twice. Sometimes they had intended to buy two items that were side by side, and misdirected their click. If they would like a refund for that duplicate purchase, I'll give it to them.

Now, if it was more than just 2 or 3 copies, I would get suspicious that something odd was going on. But as long as I had proof in my transaction log that I had been paid, and the item was copyable anyway, I have no issues with refunding that. Usually makes for a very happy customer who is flabbergasted that I contacted them and offered the refund, and they come back to buy more of my things. And happy customers tell their friends to shop at your store, too. Angry ones that feel they got ripped of tell LOTS of friends to avoid your merchandise.

Off topic: I don't usually buy stuff based on forum signatures, but Olila's caught my eye and I visited her store. She has some really nice glove-style manicures and eyes.

I would first double check the perms on the item in store. I had something sort of like this happen last week, one av logged in and bought almost everything in the bargain corner, then another, then another. All in all 5 diff avs bought almost everything there in one day. I got nervous and checked but they were all still no transfer so I guess it was just coincidence. Unless they are wanting to rez and copybot my early work which to be honest, if they are wasting their time with that more power to them.

Same here. It's bizarre. One woman came in and got the same exact freebie 21 times in a row. Most often, it's more like 2 or 3 times. I sent my bookkeeping alt in to see if stuff was actually getting delivered, and it comes in just fine. *shrug* Considering that the freebie is No Transfer, I'm mystified.

I noticed that a while back, and started refunding people for the extras and asking why they'd done it. Mostly it was because they expected the purchase to show up in "Objects" as a box, instead of a new folder. Occasionally it was "I don't think you're charging enough for that".

After a while my philanthropy gland wore out and I quit looking for and automatically making refunds, and let people ask.

YES that is exactly 'what it could be', :) I have done it many times, bought several copies before it dawned on me that the thing was 'copy' and I'd only needed one, duh. Just didn't check the perms first, my own fault.

Yes, I've had this happen a few times myself. In all cases they purchaser said it 'happened unexpectedly and on it's own."

The transactions also appeared wierd, as The Vendor names itself after the object being sold, so in transaction history, the name of the item should appear. In all cases, the secondary purchase had no name, So this leads me to believe It's something Post-Purchase, on LL's end, perhaps a duplication of the money event.
