Today, just randomly the bottom of my avatar turned black! I rebaked, re-logged, did everything that the knowledge base said for that situation and still no success. The only time it isn't black when I remove the pant layer, but 99% of my outfits have pants layers and I have no idea how to fix it ! Any ideas?

try this (I give up asking what card people use because most often the culprit is an nvidea card)
go to advance > rendering > features > and uncheck palletized textures then go to advanced > character > rebake
that should clear it up
this setting doesn't hold, you have to do it each time you log in to SL
or press ctrl alt 7 then ctrl alt R
(I think you need the advanced menu active to have the short cuts work) to get the advanced menu press ctrl alt D (or in some cases ctrl alt shift D)

Something like that happens to me after a new update and it goes away after a few days or so... Happened with this one too, some things turned me half black removed all textures from top or bottom etc. I've had it happen just on my face before, too. For some reason it was certain objects or garments. Sometimes it went away changing items/garments, other times it stayed a while or even spread like a fungus over my av...then went away on its own a few days later. Maybe it's some type of in-world avatar illness....?? (wait it out before changing vid cards is my advice.)

I'll give that a shot, it's a Nvidia GeForce 7600GS OC. I've logged on from another computer and still had the same problem.

Yep it seemed like it was happening to people in waves which made me wonder if it happens sort of a geological area at a time...parts of the 'grid' at a time or whatever the techie term is.
