Privacy Screen Invisibility

After several failed attempts, I have not been able to make a large privacy screen that is invisible on one side and opaque (pictured) on the other. My current screen is blocking out my neighbor's view as well as mine, and I don't want to get in trouble for this. I don't even know if I'm breaking a Linden law by blocking my neighbor's view. Does anyone know how to make an image transparent on one side and pictured on the other? Could you direct me to someplace where I can get the information on how to do this? I'm at a loss.

You are able to selectively texture sides of a prim by dragging and dropping textures out of your inventory to the side where you want to change the texture. Just create a large, thin prim (e.g. 10x10x.01), then drop an opaque texture on the one side and a totally clear one on the other.

There's a texture in the library called *Default Transparent Texture.

if you go to the change texture on your tools then double click the side of the prim you want to change the texture on it will only change that side you choose..then it is a matter of finding the texture you wish to use..

Kudos to you for your consideration!

I wish my neighbour was like this but she's plonked a massive 32x32x40 metre green cube on her flat sandy beachfront, parked an ugly house on top and surrounded it with three ugly grey walls shielding it ftom the hoi-polloi behind her on the steep hillside. For sheer tastelessness, tactlessness and arrogance, it takes your breath away.

I'm looking for screens too but, when I put them up to block out her horrid eyesore, I will also be blocking out the beautiful east facing seaview with sunrise that so attracted me to my parcel in the first place.

As far as I know there is no Linden law about blocking your neighbour's view which leaves me (and anyone else in my position) with no viable options to get the blockage removed ...

here is the way I change textures on each face (or side) of a prim independently of the rest

go into edit mode, then check the little radial button for "select texture" (which would make more sense if it was select face)
then touch the face (side) of the prim that you want to change the texture on
then you can go to the textures tab (if you do not see the textures tab, click the "more" button
on the textures tab you can then choose which texture to apply (for the clear you can find the default transparent texture in the library textures folder.)

Then to texture the next face (side) touch that face (side) then choose texture for that face (side)

I spent a few days building a rockwall and positing it in my yard so it looked great. The same neighbors who I am trying to be nice to grabbed a huge ugly 3 story skybox and smashed it as close to my wall as they could without encroaching on my property lines. I'm with you on calling these structures eyesores.

The best advice I can give anyone one this kind of thing is just do your best to make it pretty from your view then wait.

Most folks move on to other plots of land eventually or simply learn to build better and want something nicer.

The one constant in SL is that nothing ever stays the same. ;)

I am hoping this is true. The eyesore in question belongs to someone who purports to be a builder and seller of land so maybe she will sell it. On the other hand, I've checked her picks and most of the other plots of land she has for sale are all empty which gives me an uneasy feeling that she might be planning to keep the beachside plot for herself.

So I'm off to check out screens and skyboxes :-)

I sell some quite nice ones, if I do say so myself. Just follow the link to my shop from my profile in-world - or look on SLX. But the shop has screens that block off quite ugly neigboring parcels, so you can see for yourself how effecgtive landscape screens can be.

The edit texture for side by side texturing is the main thing, but to make life a little easier try turning the entire screen transparant then texture the side to and away from you, that way you don't have to bother selecting the top and sides to turn them transparant later.
