This isn't technically a question, but I just had to share... I have the Discovery Channel on in the background as I'm working, and a few minutes ago, Cash Cab was on. (I love that show.) The host asked, 'Boasting __ residents, (don't remember how many he said) what online virtual world uses Linden Dollars as currency?' I thought, hey, cool, we're a trivia question! :D Even better, the two young women playing knew the answer!

It was a nice little surprise. So, to make this post legal, I guess my question is, what other cool or surprising places have you seen references to Second Life? :)

my sister in law came over one day and saw me using SL, she was like, HEY that is the game I saw on CSI, I signed up but never got the hang of it, would you like to show me around sometime?

I was like... um yeah ok LOL
I was just a little surprised

ya see, the family know hubby and I met on the internet, but not fully aware what it was we met on, so when I told her, that is the game matt and I met on, she was like... ohhhh wow way cool!!!!

I did not even know she tried it till then

(wonder if she reads the forums LOL, she forgot to tell me her name in here)

I like Cash cab too, when I surf through it every now and then. Every time SL is mentioned any where mainstream I kind of want to call a bunch of people up and say something like, "See, I'm not that weird."

On a documentary on TV (can't remember which channel, but I'm in the UK) by the physicist Michio Kaku, doing a series on what the future holds. SL is, apparently, the future :)

It had a pretty positive slant on it - showing a woman who now makes shoes on SL who earns more doing that than her previous day job, and who met her real life husband on SL.

Rather better than the shock horror documentaries about cartoons having kinky sex :)

I hope my US friends and family get to see it!

I too met my RL hubby on SL, but am not making more money selling shoes LOL
I so can not wait to get my pc back, so I can start making more shoes/boots and kid stuff

I've seen SL mentioned on the British Legion website - such an august, respectable body. :D

:) ohhhh fun!! i love cash cab. such a fun concept - that guy's got a radio voice, and i always kinda think he's gonna say 'cash call' instead, like it's a radio contest kinda thing. questions are always really easy; it ain't 'jeopardy' but that's okay. fun it got in there!! :)

oh gee, i guess funny thing i think i see more often is 'furry' stuff in commercials lol;) although animals have always been a commercial staple, just seems like more 'fun' being made at the expense of 'peeps-in-suits' stuff.

ohh and there's this terrible infomercial 'crazy like a fox' which tells ya nothing other than 'work from home; go to this website and enter allllll your personal info' kinda thing lol - which makes me think of furry foxes; dunno if that was intentional.

but i always flash back to the first forum posting about beta-testing flexi-prims and someone's video posted 'check out my foxy flexy tail'!! just fun, always makes me smile :)

If you look up Second Life on Wikipedia it gives cultural references to it. Once SL is mentioned on South Park then I know they have hit the big time.

That would be brilliant, and it would even better if on the South Park SL the boys' SL avatars were played by real actors instead of cartoons :D

I'm waiting for House to mention it, maybe even be seen playing it when he is avoiding work, like when he watches the soap opera. Or better yet, a Family Guy reference.

Hehe, House would be excellent!
