I have a group that requires certain people to be able to change the Music URL on one of my parcels. Currently the land is set to the group, but not deeded yet. My question after searching the knowledge base for several days, do I need to Deed my land before the "Can Set Music URL" option on the group role will work, or will it work simply having the land set to group? I am not in a rush to deed my land if I do not need to, but if I must, I must.

I'm pretty sure that just setting the land to group works. You will need to make those people a specific role, specifying that they can change the media settings. That's in the Group Info dialog box. They'll need to have both that Group and that role active when changing media.

Thanks, that much I understood, I was just unsure if I had to go all the way to Deeding the land. I live in the same sim as my business parcel and would like to keep it in my ownership strictly to use the remaining prims as overflow should I need them... Which reminds me... I should derez whats left of the wedding cake, it's alot of prims and much be stale by now. LOL
Anyway, if this remains true that is great for me, otherwise my home prim count is below the supported for now so no great loss. |

You can also get a radio device that controls the music stream. I've got one that has a notecard with names of people that can operate the radio. As long as the radio and land are owned by the same person, it will work. I don't remember the name of it, but if you send me an IM in-world, I can track it down for you. It's only 1 prim and really easy to use. (at least on individually owned land, I still haven't configured it for group owned land)

Hmmm now that you mention it, I do remember some problems with media and land ownership, but that was long long ago on a private sim, and things have probably changed since then. I'd test it with land Set to Group first, before I Deeded it. Sorry not more helpful.

Thanks, I will have a radio on site, but I have other reasons for allowing the particular role to change the media URL manually. I guess worst case scenario I see how it goes.

I haven't crossed the issue, but I imagine that it needs to be deeded land if you do not put down a radio for use on the parcel. Parcel media is seemingly controlled by the owner, not the group that the land is set to. If you want group members to change the parcel settings in About Land, they would need to own the plot as the group owner. I don't know, for sure. But a lot of things that used to make sense with group land don't anymore, and I imagine that you must deed the group for that power to be effective.

One thing to consider, set up a "DJ" role that just has the ability to change the stream. That way if you have hired help come in and need to change the stream, you don't give them access to your officer's /manager's powers.
