Noob Question: How to see "now playing" info

So I've been wandering around SL for a while, getting used to things... right away I notice that each area has different music. (some I like, some not so good)

I notice some of it is streaming audio from places like 1.FM. I use those services in winamp and like that you can see who is playing.

So my question is, can I see who's playing with the SL client? Can I also see where the stream is coming from?

I'd almost rather turn off the radio and listen to winamp if I can't get more details.

Thanks for dealing with my noob question.

No, you cant see the URLs of the media streams. This is in the About Land window under Media. Unless you own the land, or are part of the land group, the URL looks like ************ to you.

However, if you really like the music, I'd suggest IMing the land owner and simply asking what the URL is. Most people will happily send it to you. Exceptions would be maybe DJs using their own streams and the like. Remember, some of those streams can only have so many listeners at once, so those are not going to be handed out.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Found it in my notes, not sure if it works though, never done it:

to unmask someone else's stream on the land, you hit 'view admin options' from the client menu, then when you hit about land the media tab will NOT be XXX'ed out

And basically no one is really playing with the "client," per se. Each person who owns land can set their own music stream to come from whatever server they choose, like Shoutcast, etc. Unless they wanted to leave their computer on all the time and stream from their home server (not likely in most cases), you're hearing stuff on existing streams.

And welcome to SL and the forums! :)

I'm parsing this differently than everybody else. More like: "Can I, with the client, see who's playing?" There are radio scripts that use an http service most graciously provided by Jamie Otis to get the station and "now-playing" info to display on the scripted object that sets the stream. My version is hacked beyond recognition, but see /54/65/211077/1.html for some scripting discussion of this.

Unfortunately, there's no way for a script to get the stream information directly from the parcel--it can only know what it set that stream to, or whatever its told by another script that did the setting. So you can't, like, wear a HUD to see what everybody else's land radio is playing.

Ah! Maybe that's what he meant. Now that I look at it, your way makes more sense Qie. :)
