Can you ban people from groups?

A question from a friend of mine (English is not her first language so she asked me to post it).

If you have an open enrollment group and are troubled by a griefer, is it possible to ban him or her from the group, as you might ban someone from a sim? Or can the pest just keep on rejoining the group each time he or she is booted out?

I can't find any way to do it in the knowledge base, but that's not as navigable as it might be.

You can place individual avatars on a "banned" list. You do that in the "access" tab in the group. But only the owner(s) can do that.

As far as I know the only way to keep him out is to restrict enrollment to invite only. Or you might put a price on admission and refund the cost to everyone but him.

Last I heard if you eject somebody from a group that avatar will not ever be allowed to join that group again, even if it is open enrollment, without a specific invitation. So make sure that only people you trust have invite powers and you can merely eject the griefer from the group.

Where is the "access" tab? I own a group and I can't see it.. prolly looking in the wrong place.

there's a jira open for a feature allowing group owners to ban specific residents from joining a group. there is a comment stating that there was some fix in place where if you were ejected from an open group, you couldn't rejoin without an invitation, but there is also a comment saying that is false and doesn't work. haven't tried it myself but maybe someone could check with an alt. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2826

here's the jira feature request: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2825

I think she is talking about group owned land.

I suspect you're thinking about the access banning features in about land. there's isn't a banning feature in groups . you only eject someone if you have sufficient abilities to do so.

This isn't true. We've done that when cleaning up a group. You can join again.

Yes, according to my friend, that's the problem.. she bans this guy and he's back again five minutes later, spamming and causing a nuisance. She's trying Chris Norse's solution, having warned him that her problem chap that he won't get his money back. I suggested she AR the guy for persistent spamming and harassment, which apparently she has already but nothing's yet been done.

What you can do now is mute someone from posting to group chat, which usually deals with why someone is being removed from a group, though not always. It is very helpful nonetheless.

The problem with that is that, apparently, the work-round is just to leave group chat session, reopen the window, and you are no longer prevented from posting. That's what this pest does, as I understand it.

I'm wondering if the solution wouldn't be an inviter bot of some sort -- presumably the bot could have this chap on its mute list or otherwise be programmed to ignore requests from him for invitations to join the group.
