Possible bug/glitch or?
Earlier today, I was at a sim talking in IM to a "friend" of mine, who was at the same sim. At a moment, I teleported out because I felt like shopping. Almost as soon as I teleported and arrived at the store (on the sim AlterNation, in this case), I received an IM from the person noticing I left the sim (I didn't say I was teleporting out, since the person wasn't near me) I was at and asked me "What store is there at AlterNation?". Being rather confused, I went my usual "Huh?", to which I got "You're at AlterNation". A minute later, he was standing next to me while I didn't do/say a thing.
Now this might seem the most normal case on the planet, since people will say he just mapped me and found where I was and then teleported to that location. The thing is, the option to "map me"/have me show on the world map, was NOT enabled. The person could NOT have mapped me. He/she has never been able to map/stalk me since it has always been disabled for the person. The option that I was tracked down through somekind of script, is also a no. The person has never given me anything (I'm 110% sure of this), so he/she couldn't have tracked me that way.
When I asked how they found me, the reaction I got came down to "A lucky guess". There is nothing which would have made the person be able to guess where I was going to. I have never worn clothing from that store in his presence (since I don't wear that store's clothing often), I have no link/teleport in my profile which is connected to the store and/or sim and I'm not even a member of the store's group! So how on earth did this person find me?
Has any of you experienced this before, where it seemed like someone mapped/stalked you while the option for them was and has always been disabled? Is this somekind of SL friend list bug or glitch which Linden Lab hasn't been informed about yet?
..It's just creepy going shopping and someone knowing exactly what sim you're in and a minute later, standing right next to you.

There's a script that can watch you jump to the next region. I didn't think anybody still used it because it's not 100% reliable, sees just one jump from the current sim, and uses absolutely as much script resources as a single script can get. But apparently somebody still does.

There are scripted devices that can tell where someone that is nearby can tell what sim you immediately TP to.
If you were to TP again, unless they followed you, they should not be able to tell where you are.

maybe another friend who can map you, told him/her where you were at, and the cords.
(one never knows)

I`m no expert, but have heard and read about HUD`s, that can trace a persons last teleport...and some sort of follower device you can attatch somehow to a person without their knowledge. Not sure how these things work..but wouldn`t be surprised if they do

From: William13 Enoch ... some sort of follower device you can attatch somehow to a person without their knowledge... Oh, yeah, there is that, too. In order for it to follow someone through a teleport, it would in fact have to be attached, but indeed, if you're wearing an attachment that somebody gave you, all manner of mischief is possible.

Well, never mind how it was done, I'd remove the creep from your 'friends' list immediately.
I'd never follow someone without asking, and then certainly wouldn't give vague answers when challenged about it. "Lucky guess", indeed.
However it was done technically, socially I find that unacceptable in this environment.
I wish people wouldn't be so quick to want to get on your friends list. Being too wimpy to refuse them, I usually wait until they're gone and then delete them.

Please forgive the off-topic question but it doesn't seem important enough to merit its own thread - when you delete someone from your friend list do they get a message saying that you did so? Or do you just quietly disppear from your friends list?

If you're both online and someone removes you from their friends list you will get the following message: " name) has removed you from their friends list! Cause they hate you! How do you like being rejected that way? Hurts huh?"

From: Reese Saenz So how on earth did this person find me?
Recently, LL created a new LSL (Linden Scripting Language) command with a bug allowing someone in a sim to track the most recent TP out that an avatar makes. Scripts and products exploiting this appeared immediately. This is one way your friend may have found out ... or perhaps a friend told him/her etc.. LL has fixed the bug, but I don't think the fix has made it to a release yet. In Jira, this is bug SVC-774, which is critical and has been marked resolved, fixed internally.
