I sold my land the night before my tier was due and I was still charged the Tier. Are we paying in a month in advance for our land? Or paying for the past month?

Thanks for the help.

I understood that we are paying for the amount of land we hold at the moment tier is charged so I think you were charged incorrectly. Did you reduce your tier in your account? Because I don't think its automatic except for calculating the max land you held. If you sell land, LL doesn't know if you want the extra tier for some reason, so they don't automatically tier you down. What I do is if I want to tier down, I sell the land and then go to my account and choose a lower tier in my account. It's worked well so far.

You are always charged for the maximum amount of land you held since the last tier payment even if you only had it for 1 minute.

Make sure you manually lower your tier at the website. Contact billing if you have not done so already.

Tier is charged based the maximum amount of land you've held at any time in the previous month. You can't get out of paying tier simply by selling land the day before tier is due.

You pay in arrears for your land.

Confirming -

1) You are charged tier based on the maximum level that you reached in the month leading up to the bill date.

It would be kewl if LL only charged for what you held on the bill date.
That way, I could have an Alt on a different bill date and sell her all my land for L$0 just before my bill date. She would then sell back to me after my bill date and before hers.
Result? Zero tier payments. ;)

2) You are charged on the maximum level that you actually held - in land plus tier donations to group(s)
The 'tier level' on the website does not affect your tier bill. What you do by 'tiering down' on the website is to set the level at which the purchase will process will warn you of a tier increment.

So :
You are at a given tier level.
You sell enough land or remove tier donations to get you down to a lower level.
Your next bill will still be at the higher level, because you reached that level during the month. However, the bill at the end of the following month will be for the lower level. You don't have to do anything on the website.

However if you buy more land, it could push you up into a higher level again.
If you don't 'tier down' on the website, then if you buy more land, you won't get an automatic warning that you are going back up to the previous tier level
