Magazines and books?

Me and a friend have started our own escort agency and VIP club and our clients are asking for a magazine containing ertotic pics of us that they can wear somewhat like a hud clicking arrow buttons to go from page to page.

I am writting in here to ask our resisdents of sl if they could give us a small guide to doing this and if scripting is required then we will be hiring!

There are two good in-world formats for the kind of thing you are talking about: either Thinc Books, or Intellibooks. You can buy a press for either for under L$1000, and it will produced unlimited copies of whatever you want to publish. Pages are imported textures; the book can be read as an object (clicking on the pages turns them) or attached to the HUD and read there.

I can't believe they cost that much. But that's because I can't believe anyone would want them. I've never seen one with text that was as legible as a notecard, nor have I seen any with pictures that wouldn't have been better off as a web page or Flickr account.

I have seen a book with text and pics, the words were legible but took the maker a lot of hit and misses to get it right.

Well, the book objects themselves . . . the "blanks" . . . only cost about L$75 each or so. But they are no copy, and one use only. To reproduce copies, you need a "press," which is the big cost. I've used Thinc Book, but am thinking of purchasing a Intelli Book press. I think both systems are quite similar.

I agree that neither technology is very effective or satisfactory, in any case, and the fact that you can't cut and paste text or search them is a major disadvantage. This is why I use notecard texts for the books I sell that are available to read in-world (although most of my books link to online academic sources). But there are major issues with notecards too, such as the lack of formatting options, and the inability to embed images directly into them. They are also clunky as all hell, and can't be searched in-world.

In general, actually, the technologies available for texts in SL kind of suck right now. I'm hoping that notecards get improved, and that better scripted book objects become available soon.

You could also do a slideshow (they seem to only want the pictures, *coff*) - I am pretty sure that I have a freebie slideshow maker, and maybe even a freebie book script or something. I'll try and send you some stuff in-world next time I am in.
