Using Voice

I would appreciate some help please.

When I click in Preferences to use voice, the screen goes black and when it reappears, everything is magnified. I can't see the menus at the top, or the chat etc rows at the bottom and the voice or music things, nor can I see my own av. I usually play SL in a window.

I wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if so how you solved it.

Many thanks for your help.

That sounds incredibly strange... For anyone to help you, we'll at least need to know your client and system information. What version of the SL client you're running, what operating system you are running, what type of video card...

Did you try to activate Voice by using some sort of keyboard shortcut? Off the top of my head, it sounds rather as if you had accidentally triggered some sort of "accessability" option in your operating system, intended for vision-impaired users. Something that zooms in on your current cursor position, and probably allows you to pan around to see the whole window, if you knew which keys to press to change what part of the screen you're magnifying.

Hi Alexa do you get this as soon as you bring up voice preferences or when you click apply after changing them?

On Lenovo laptops magnification can be toggled by typing [Fn]-[Space]. It'll be different for other brands.

Not sure if that's of any help in this case, though ...

Alexa - this is really strange, and I don't have an answer.

But two things occur to me. Either your PC/laptop suddenly thinks that your monitor is bigger than it really is, or else your client thinks that the SL window is bigger than it really is.

If you run SL in a window in the center of your screen, does the Window get bigger or does the the content expand causing you to lose the edges of the content? What happens if you resize the window after it has happened?

Thank you for all your replies.

I have an old comp using XP with an ATI video card. When I play in a window, it fills the screen but means I have the minimize, close X etc in the top right hand corner.

It seems there is no easy answer. A platonic friend wanted confirmation that I was really female lol. Looks like I will be losing a friend but such is life.

I don't call that losing a friend... I call it never being a friend to begin with. (>_<;)

Yep! But remember, the best way to be disappointed is to trust someone.

No lie.

You have two separate problems. The technical problem with your monitor, and a jerk of a "friend". Deal with them separately.
