Did you see it? “Molotov Alva and His Search For His Creator: A Second Life Odyssey" It aired last night. If, like me, you missed it, it and bonus episodes can be seen at: http://www.cinemax.com/molotov-alva/index.html. Start with Dispatch 1, which may not be the one in the large panel. The Reuters story on this film is also interesting: http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2008/05/14/cinemax-documentary-asks-why-second-life/I watched the first few minutes, which seemed well-done, capturing a wistful, magical tone that was very SL. Let us all know what you think.

Tho HBO and Cinemax are pretty much the same company, having HBO doesn't get you Cinemax channels which means I don't get to see this. Hopefully it'll make its way over to HBO before too long.
I noticed there's a Cinemax island - no clue if it's ancient or new, though. Any tie-ins to the show there?

http://www.cinemax.com/molotov-alva/index.html can already watch (all?? ten episodes here... just finished watching it, fascinating, touching and great. i question 'all' because i soooo much want to see more... i felt a little 'cliffhanged' at the end of ten, but it's obviously one of those great open-ended stories that just makes me yearn for a lil' more... GOOD JOB!! p.s. to say it reminds me a little in mood of 'wax/discovery of television among the bees'... a little less mind-bending in the end, maybe cuz i'm used to sl now. now -that's- a little video-art project that will slowly take your brain, massage it sweetly then suddenly wring it senseless... gosh i hope i still have my old viddy of that, will hafta dig that out for a watch. p.p.s YAAYYY i still have it; gotta bend my brain even more later lol.

The Reuters story says there is a portal (done by ESC) with a tie-in to Cinemax Island, but I didn't see it on their website. .

From: Nika Talaj The Reuters story says there is a portal (done by ESC) with a tie-in to Cinemax Island, but I didn't see it on their website. . from the connecting interview at the cinemax link, http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/molotovalva/interview.html "In fact, as a companion to the documentary, we've also created Molotov Alva's Interactive Journey through Second Life. Viewers will be able to log onto Second Life and embark on their own curated journey with Molotov and his mentor, Orhalla Zander. An elite group within Second Life, NPIRL (Not Possible in Real Life), has also contributed greatly to the journey. There will be a few surprises and a reward at the end, and along the way viewers can visit many of the same locations and meet people who appear in the documentary. It isn't often that a documentary provides its viewers with a way to have such an immersive experience, so we really look forward to launching this in conjunction with the documentary airing on Cinemax." yah now where this exactly is, haven't looked myself; anyone finds it please post a slurl p.s. and do watch them in order; you'll lose context if you don't. s'nice though he made them 'bite-sized', but the entirety won't take long to go thru.

They released it, yay!
Caledon is honoured to be a part of this - you can see us about midway through the fourth segment. Further thanks to Orhalla Zander, for being so instrumental in making it a fine production. If anyone is interested further, there is a 'tour' of their other filming locations, available via an info kiosk in region Caledon VictoriaCity, in Victoria City Park right off the hub. It looks like Molotov's camera, just touch it.

About time. Thinkerer's crew showed me that almost a year ago.
Seems like Alva is fast becoming the "posterboy for Machinima", at least over here in the States, which is cool. I got a whole YouTube folder of nothing but Machinima, and there's mostly garbage done with Halo (yeah yeah it's a good game, who needs 3 million videos on it though, with the same "plots"?), and WoW, that just rely on the graphics, and don't even really tell a story. Stuff like this is a real breath of fresh air.

The 5 episodes on Cinemax On Demand right now are apparently a combined or re-edited version of all 10 on the website, with "Forever" still the last episode.

This documentary is amazing. It is a wonderful testament of the intensity of Second Life and the people who live and journey here.
Thanks!

Dag all that time he was searching? Why didn't he just type Zen Zeddmore in the "search creator"™ box? I'd have chatted him up better that that grid monkey.

I recorded it but haven't had the chance to watch it yet. I'm going to sometime this weekend. I'm pretty excited about it. I generally get excited when I see good things about SL. Way to much bad press out there from people more interested in getting a good story than the truth about sl.

Was nice to see SL portrayed in a positive light instead of giving impressions that its all about meth labs and sexual predators.
