Does anyone know if camping bots are illegal on sl or not. For one I'm absolutely sick to death of them even tho they cant actually get on our dancing pads, but they continually click on and off all the time.
Lindens don't seem to want to know about them even though they have been reported by giving the name, surely they can track down their creator and bann them for life!!!

Thats sad news from Linden's as its the innocent who are getting harmed by them. I dont mind giving money on dance pads as long as its genuine av. but the creators of bots are just exploiting and using others.

I suggested a couple of times having a separate type of account just for Bots, That way you could ban bots on your land if you didn't want them there. However I was flamed pretty heavily for even suggesting it. Even for a voluntary separate account type for bots.

Alot of bot runners would go for that idea, too. It's not really clear what a bot is, though. That a client does something the Linden one doesn't, doesn't mean much.

why not just set your pads not to pay out, then the bots will sit on them all day and you get the traffic you wanted at no cost

From: Snowman Jiminy How do you stop bots from getting on your pads? Put large powerful magnets on the ceiling above the pads. That way, when they try to get near the pads, they'll stick to the ceiling instead. --Hugsy

If you put out camping spots nobody should have any sympathy for you if bots take you for every cent, they still give you traffic and take your money so in that respect they're no different than a regular camping resident.

From: Snowman Jiminy How do you stop bots from getting on your pads? add a dialog script, they have to press "OK" to continue camping for each single camping session, or they get logged off in x amount of seconds.

From: EliteData Maximus add a dialog script, they have to press "OK" to continue camping for each single camping session, or they get logged off in x amount of seconds. I've always been in favor of interactive camping pads. If you want free money, you should have to work for it. It should be fairly easy to script something where the camper has to click, or say, options to keep the camping coutner going. I'm not talking continuously every 5 seconds, but once every time-limit like EliteData suggested. So if a pad earns 3L$ every 10 minutes, then interaction needs to happen every 10 minutes (including the initial to start). While this may be frowned upon by those who sit on camp pads and sleep/work....*shrugs*. Nothing in life is free my friends. I don't see this practice becoming popular anyway. As Gordon stated, most people who put out camping pads only want the traffic, and they don't care if it's a person or a bot or a zombie. Just as long as they get the traffic. However, for those wishing to actually HELP the newbies, and want to keep bots from "stealing" the L$ from them, then this idea for scripting would be the way to go. Sadly, I can't even script a prim to just sit there ~Jessy

In our Asian garden we provide Tai Chi as a way of camping. We like the idea of helping newer residents earn some small change. What we do NOT want is the true gold diggers coming around.
So we have implemented an approval system - only avatars that we have approved can earn money on the Tai Chi spots. How to get approved? Well, you have to actually have a conversation as a real person with one of the management. Foolproof? No, it isn't, but it lets us at least make sure that there is a real person behind the avie and not just some gold-mining entity. We've found it creates a nicer atmosphere - campers actually get to know each other - bonds have been formed, business deals done.
Overall a very positive experience for us.
