Resident not showing up in search?

Hi,

I am trying to locate the owner of a building next to my land, but when I search for them, they are not listed in search. They are still listed as the owner of the property next to mine, however. Is there any way to find out if this person still has an account? If they don't, how can I go about buying their property?

Thanks!

Grace

P.S. I know search can sometimes be flaky, so I searched for them on two different evenings when other searches appear to be working properly. And I triple checked the spelling of their name.

I've been having this problem for a few days and erroneously thought for a while my landlord had abandoned his island estate. It turned out I could find him in the new viewer under ALL, but still not under PEOPLE. Have you tried searching ALL?

1) The account has been suspended (TOS/CS violation or is past due on payment)
2) The account has been cancelled (which I don't think is actually possible if you still own mainland)

If he/she was suspended for a violation, they'll just be back once that runs out.

If he/she is past due on payment and never settles the outstanding amount, then LL will (eventually, can take a while) put the parcel up for (US$ most likely) auction and you'll have to outbid everyone else to get it.

I've noticed something similar in the search where a search on my last name pulls up far less than it used to... like orders of magnitude less... not sure why

Are there any objects owned by the landlord? Maybe you can "edit" the object and pull up the profile of the owner? Search is flaky these days, and unless the person has selected to have his profile listed under search, he won't show up.

Hi,

I haven't tried searching "All" yet. I'll give that a try tonight.

Thanks!

Hi Oryx,

Yes, he has sort of a house on the property. (No doors and it's still plywood covered! My fiance said it looks like a birdhouse!) I am able to bring up his profile that way, but it doesn't have anything in it that would help me find him. No groups, no picks, etc.

I didn't know we had to allow our profiles to appear in search! I just assumed they all did.

Oh well. Maybe I can't gain an extra 512 after all!

Thanks everyone!

Make sure you do the search via the People tab or the ols al tab, and not via the "New and improved" search that is web based. The new search still can't find a LOT of residents!

I wasn't even aware of a web search. I was searching on the People tab in-world.

Does the profile not have 'Send IM' Grace?

If the People tab in-world doesn't find someone, and if you are certain you have their name spelled correctly, then there can be two reasons - either the account is cancelled, or it is suspended. Suspended accounts can and will come back. Accounts can get suspended for many reasons, and there's no way really for an average user to determine if someone is suspended because they were merely being investigated for a false claim, or if they were banned for life.

i have been having this "not in search" problem for a while but in a different context.

i have a neighbor to whom i considered giving some land. she owns a small plot with house and landscaping. i can find her in search with no problem.

however, when i tried to assign the land sale to a particular person (her) ... i could find her in THAT search function.

frustrating.

it's a moot point at this point since i finally gave up and decided to keep the land ... but i wonder if this is another indication of a stuffed search function?

try doing a copy/paste of the name from one of their objects. This will ensure that a character in the name may be off, for example, a 0 instead of a O. (zero instead of the alphabet letter O.)

I don't think Grace is doing the search wrong... it just sounds like she has the same situation that I had with my next-door neighbor. In a nutshell, the neighbor left SL and stopped paying their tier, so their account was suspended or canceled, but LL did not reclaim their land or the objects on it.

For two months the person was missing from search (people tab), but I could pull up their profile from the parcel or from their objects. After that time, I just submitted a support ticket about the parcel to see if it was truly abandoned, and LL confirmed that it was and finally reclaimed it (and put it to auction immediately at my request).

Because my neighbor had left build on and autoreturn off when they ditched (the bastard! ;) ), I had been looking for them for three months BEFORE they dropped out of search. Their profile had groups on it beforehand, which allowed me to group-stalk the person to see when they had last logged on. When they first dropped out of search, their profile still showed groups but the groups no longer listed them as a member. A while later (couple weeks maybe?), the neighbor's profile stopped showing the groups. I'm thinking that might have been when the account went from "suspended pending payment" to "canceled for nonpayment", but that's just speculation on my part.

Anyway, the point of all this rambling is that LL is not reclaiming land from canceled accounts for some reason, and this results in land being held by avs who do not appear in search. The land actually IS abandoned, but you need to work with LL support to establish that and get it put up for auction in a timely manner. I recommend starting with a support ticket, but following up with a live chat if they don't respond within a couple of days.

i am cutting and pasting, xplorer .. but nothing.

i thought like ava that it was a dead account whose land and possessions LL hasn't yet reclaimed ... but she still shows up in search.

anyway, a moot point as i said. i'm keeping the land. :P

The user is not showing up when I search "all" either. (And I did the copy paste thing, though I knew I wasn't making any errors in that.)

And yeah, there is an IM button in his profile, but I don't know him and I don't normally IM strangers.

Doesn't really matter. I'm not sure I want to pay tier anyway. :P

Also there is a Box in our Profile that says Show in Search....might be they dont have it checked. I ran into that with a newbie the other day. Once she checked it, it took about 2 hours for her to show in search.

Oh that's right. Someone else mentioned that and I forgot. Oh well. I did break down and IM him last night - just out of pure curiosity since he hasn't done anything to his land since he bought it other than build that strange-looking house.

Haven't heard anything back from him yet though, and don't really expect to.
