Help choosing Nicholaz Viewer?

The Nicholaz viewers seem to get consistently good reviews, and I'd like to try it. But he has so many different versions on his site that I'm confused.

I'm currently running LL viewer 1.18.2.0, the general release voice-enabled viewer.

I'd like to install Nick's latest voice-enabled version.

Do I need to upgrade to the latest LL Release Candidate, then install Nick's viewer over it? Or what?

Help for the computationally challenged is appreciated.

go back to his site. The one I have is 18xm, which was the latest a couple of days ago. he has a link to the regular viewer you need to install, and then instructions on how to install his over that one.

Basically, you copy nicholaz.exe and three .xml files into the /Program Files/SecondLifeReleaseCandidate directory.

Enjoy...

I understand your confusion - especially since you can still even use the old 1.16 non-voice version of SL with an older nicholaz viewer. I wouldn't go there though, as the new 1.18 stuff is now stable enough (or as stable as SL ever is these days). And you can get access to all of those variations from the nicholaz website.

I thought the 18xm was specifically for 1.18.3.x which is still one of those special test versions of SL (Release Candidates)? I'm using 1.18.2 of SL (last non-test version released) with the 18xg version of Nicholaz.

Get the latest Release Candidate and then Nick's 18xm. You won't be sorry.

I'm on xj - but am waiting for the next full release, the one that corrects the security hole, before downloading yet another version of SL and then Nicholaz' viewer.

That would be 18xg then.

The later ones have been written with the Release Candidate in mind.

Thanks, all...Lee especially.

It wasn't so hard after all. I installed the 1.18.4 RC viewer, then Nick's 18 xm version, made one change in the version.txt document, and away we went.

Only one problem...I'm still crashing just about as often as before (on average, once every couple of hours).

I think it's not the viewer, but my machine...because while some of the crashes are the viewer only, some are complete instant BSOD type failures.

I just uploaded 18.3.3 and the new Nik version. Then I login and SL tells me there is now an optional 18.3.4. So, to keep using Nik, we are going to not download 18.3.4?
