Hi, I wonder if you can tell me the hair updo with the lowest ARC you have found? (ARC = Avatar rendering cost)

Same with shoes and jewellery. I know I can go bald and shoeless, but I am looking for an oufit that will give me 100- 200 in ARC.

I can drop necklace and earrings, but I really like bangles.

Someone standing nearby at the moment has an ARC of around 200. They have a prim choker, ring, hair and shoes, all of which are very detailed. Their secret? I'm guessing it's not where they shop, but the lack of flexis and bling about their person.

The lowest arc would have to be system hair or "Linden hair" and also texture jewelry. Why you could have an arc of 0 with those! For low arc items you simply have to look for a low amount of prims, no flex, no transparent. Usually the short hair styles have lower arc.

I thought ARC was your score in SL

Why would someone want to lose on purpose?

I decided to do a little test and tried on a bunch of hair in my inventory -- ones I've made and other creators. It seems that pretty much any hair without flex, alpha textures or sculpties are about the same ARC. Starting with an ARC of 1...

* Non-flexi/alpha/sculptie added 20 points to my ARC.

* Hair with alpha textures but nothing else and it added 73 points to my total.

* Hair of mine that has just 6 flexi/alpha pieces added 149 points and another makers with 3 pieces flexi/alpha and it went up 112.

* Sculptie pieces seem to add about equal to flexi. The more pieces, the higher it goes.

* The absolute worst... I was shocked at just how bad these were...glad I don't really wear the ones I have... the type that looks like a ton of curly flexi hair at the back. The ones I tried shot me up to almost 4000 ARC without even having anything else on.

So basically any style without flexi/alpha/sculpties and you should be pretty good. :)

ETA: Guess I'm pretty bored at the moment...and avoiding real work. :P

Actually, the lowest ARC you can have is 1, I think - that's what I get when I take everything off but texture clothes, and what I see on new avatars.

I used to work at putting together great outfits with low ARC when I hosted, and even now if I'm going to a club I manage my ARC. I've mostly given up my big, fluffy hairdos in order to achieve that.

Best hairstyles are usually going to be updos with minimal flexi and alpha. I went through my inventory (great excuse to put off my latest project) and found several styles that were under 100ARC. I didn't try on everything I had, though.

Lowest ARC I got with prim hair, texture clothes, and no other prims was 16. That was a tie among multiple styles by various designers:

Ingenue's Vintage Vixen
*DG* (Innovations) Timeless and Everyday Girl
Bewitched Southern Belle
Curio ponytail
Calla Mimosa
GuRL Passion
Hairapy Windy
Wilted Rose Leia

Some of these styles may be retired. My alt has more Ingenue styles, and they'd be my first recommendation for a place to look for pretty, low-ARC hair.

Other hair I have under 100ARC:

Kaiti Designs Sandee - 21
ETD Casual - 21
Ravenwear Retroesque - 26
GuRL Blink (no flex) - 32
Calla Clove - 38
Curio Short - 58
ETD Vixen - 67
ETD Sideswipe - 69
..Marlys.. Tatyana TakeAway - 74
Wilted Rose Obey - 85
Sinsation! Maryanne - 92

I use the Sandee and the Clove a lot. Each of those designers above probably has other styles with similar ARCs.

Hope this helps. You're on your own for jewelry and shoes.

/me shrughs... well it's not AGES since the Hair Fair, where "everybody" yelled at avatars with ARC over a couple hundred. Thought I'd be prepared and have something to toss on ready.

Yes, I know I can have ARC 1. But it's a bit extreme. I can leave the 4000 ARC score hair home once in a while (irony). Thanks for the suggestions.

My best shoes is Shiny Thing's classics pumps, and Redgraves boots with only the foot part. They give just 75-80 in ARC and look good.

hey!

cos of high arc ive made most of the parts i wear for myself
my flexi and transparent hair = arc +532
my ugly sound heels = arc +22 per shoe = arc +44 for both -> no blink

the real problem with shoes is the way they are scripted, every invisible prim can hold a script with textures changing and a running timer. in worst case > 10 scripts per shoe.
my shoes have 2 invisible prims but i have removed the script (simple texture without timer)
ive also scripted the soundsript for myself.

another problem, texturing. mini prims with 1024x1024 textures are bad, in most cases you can have texturesize max 128x128 for shoes.

ive noticed arc 2000 up to 2500 doesnt really matter, but whats bad is the amount of scripts, and the amount / size of textures used.
high scripted people can lag a server to a crawl, transparent textures 1024x1024 will cause a dropdown in fps for most videoboards, or a viewer crash.

I have been told I have 1 arc when I am not using flexible hair which usually rarely and
rarely use attachments.
All my clothes usually are 1 arc because they are texture only.
Where my other design friend I share business stuff with she tends to do flexible animated
dresses and they can get pretty high arcs.
Most Designers don't do it but shoes and jewelry could be painted in the clothes layers but most depend on prims.
Personally I would love to see more add ons in texture layer, I tend to have
to do this myself when I want it made.
Just not sure yet how to do chains for like pocket watches and necklaces yet that
look 3d in texture layers.
Most seem to want some type wearable sculpties, flexible hair or clothing.
I personally don't know even how to look at arc but I don't like what happens
when I wear flexible hair or more then one attachment.

Calla and ETD have non-flexi, non-alpha hairstyles that have a low ARC, and the lowest would be the no-prim and low-prim hairstyles from Robin Sojourner. I try to wear these when I'm going somewhere that I anticipate lag.

LOL I got bored and checked mine. 54

I still look very much as I did in 2004. Although I did break down and get a pair of prim shoes and Frost bought me a fancy collar about 3 years ago. ;)

In order to check my ARC, I have to remember to log in with a newer version of the viewer and that is such a pain.
 :p

My total ARC comes in at well under 100 nearly all the time, but I like to wear tube dresses. I also make my own hair and have a lot of ethnic updos and some afros in a varietyof textures and colors including blue and green. Many of made out of one or two sculptie prims, but there is no alpha in the pattern. I have no idea how much ARC they add but it can't be much. Talk to me inworld and I'll give you copies of everything I've got.
