Rope attachments?

Most of the rope attachments I found in SL so far don't really look convincing. What are your experiences? Are there any good looking ones? Do they meet your RL experiences?

I havent seen anything that looks very convincing. I built a bamboo thing with rope and made the rope bindings myself, and they look as good as anything I have seen. When I get inworld I will send you a copy so you can fiddle with it and see what you think.

In the nicest possible way how could they meet your real life experiences?

Hummm. I have one friend who collects Shibari gear. Here's my perspective as a content creator who's not much into using these things herself, but who has observed them.

It appears there's two basic styles of Shibari gear SL.

One is clothing layer items. These are no different than any other clothing, in that they will be flat to the skin and have distortion issues in certain areas of the body. They also don't "hold" the person in a position. On the plus side, it's "one size fits most". Some do have a seperate animation that can be played in-world, for the pose. The limits of the SL clothing mesh and clothing texture details make this method unrealistic, to me. The 'ropes' have to be too big to be visible and detailed, and knotwork doesn't show well.

The others are prim attachments. These take some time and care to adjust to fit a specific user, and usually do include a pose-ball effect to hold the person in the tied position. The ones I have seen weren't textured terribly well, but there was some hope that better textures could make them look better.

From pics I have seen of actual Shibari 'play', the ropes are often rather tight and constraining. That effect is impossible in SL, as you can't realisticly compress the avatar's surface with any atachment.

Over all impression? Meh. Not very realistic...

Yes it looks pretty (well it can do). Yes it's good props to conversation. It's nothing like real life experiences tho - even visually, a great deal of the visual appeal is not just helplessness of the person tied up. The way the ropes lie into the skin, make impressions in the flesh, the pale skin/darkened by the blood flow ... these things can't measure up (and that's from someone who visualises very strongly on the basis of a minimum amount of stimuli).

Surely it can't really compare to RL, but there are so many trying stuff in SL first before even considering trying in RL. The better the impression is, the SL stuff gives them, the better they will feel with the RL stuff.

Thank you, that one looks really great! And it's good, that ist's collar friendly, I had a lot of problems with another one because it replaced a locked collar and I received the messages every time it was put on.
