Has anyone noticed that the SL horizon seems to be hazy or foggy?
I noticed this about 6 days ago. I haven't changed any settings...my home is on a hill overlooking a beach and there is a definate haze in the sky and over the water; also as I look farther out. There is a lighthouse that used to be clearly visible, not I have to fly right up on it to see it.
I have already tried toggling fog off.
Anyone else notice this or knows what it is? Could it be an isolated problem on the Sim? It's definately not normal for me.

Hi Solanghe,
You sure you haven't changed you draw distance? I accidentally did by only a tiny bit and it made a huge difference. Also.... what viewer are you using?

Hi Sally,
My draw distance is always set at 64, I did check that. As for the viewer, I am using whatever the last update gave us. = )
This just started a few days ago. Weird.

I guess I'll call the sim owner and ask her about it. It's on my home sim, where my store is located (different sim) and various places in SL. So, it must be me, right? SL. Gotta love the weirdness. *sighs*

Solanghe, I believe I've noticed the same thing. When I lower my draw distance, I get fog at my self-imposed "horizon" that I don't remember seeing before.
I thought it might have been an attempted enhancement. What I like about it is that it makes the end of your draw distance less abrupt. It also softens the appearance of your neighbors' builds.

Okidoki, Just tested this and the horizon does indeed go hazy or foggy or smoggy when I reduce my draw distance. Never noticed it before, but then I've had my draw distance crancked all the way up recently. Guess it's a feature .

Yep that's normal.
HOWEVER I've always quite liked that hazy look especially when the horizon is messy.
If you use Windlight and mess about with the sky settings you can get a horizon effect that is pretty funky. My favourite setting shows azure seas which are more transparent than the norm, a slightly bluer sky and a slightly hazy blur between the two - looks like that "rim" of water you can see if you are looking at a whole horizon of water rl. Pretty!

Unless I missed it in the release notes. I hope I can see the lighthouse from my window again if I make an adjustment. Thanks for your help and responses guys. /me goes off to read the latest version release notes.

Pretty! Hmmm. That sounds nice, but you know I am kinda scared to try the windlight viewer. I have visions of a crash-tastic good time. Things are pretty stable for me at the moment so I'm afraid to do anything. LOL

In the regular (non-windlight) viewer, there is actually a second setting to control fog. Under the Advanced Graphics tab, there is something called "fog distance ratio". Raising that number will make the fog appear farther away, and lowering it will bring the fog closer.

Living in Los Angeles it just looked normal to me, but I just checked and you are right. It looks much more smoggy now than it did before.
It doesn't really look like typical fog.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it. Whew.
It seems a bit clearer today though.

Haven't tried messing with that yet (too busy pointing at the screen and going PRETTY!! like a moron). Solanghe, I have empathy re the crashtastic time - I find if I stay away from crowds it doesn't crash me so much. However, the crashes are at least drop to desktop rather than timing out.
