Just a quick question before I de-rez for the night. During the recent 7 hour+ SL downtime, I'd have expected "US$ Spent in SecondLife" to have dropped off really quite considerably. But looking at the Reuters graph for such things, it seems that between 800,000 and 900,000 USD was being spent in SecondLife consistently over the whole period?! I get the feeling I might be having a blonde moment here and the answer should be obvious but .... You can see the Reuters graph here - http://secondlife.reuters.com/Can anyone enlighten me as to how what and why?! Many thanks in advance!

Maybe out of world trading on the Lindex. However that was supposed to be shut down to. I have yet to see a number from LL that I would believe. They might technically be correct but not necessarily showing what they intend people to think they are for. Much like the:"Total Residents 11,403,402" stat. Subtract alts and dead accounts and you have a lot less.

From: Pie Psaltery You don't still believe numbers generated by Linden Lab do you?? Nope ... was looking at Reuters figures this time. Guess I should know better. But it does make you wonder if deducting about 850,000 from the figure on the chart gives you the real number. I thought that if each point on the graph shows the USD spent over the last 24hrs, then the 7hr+ outage should have shown a steady drop at each data point over the time SL was down (rather than a sudden drop to zero). That I could have understood. Shrugs. Guess we'll never know!

I noticed that the lindex was restarted earlier than the grid as I recieved an email stating that one of my limit orders was filled while the grid was still down.
Now a normal day transfers 1.2 million and the grid was down for one third of the day, it seems reasonable that two thirds of the amount would transfer or approximaitely 800,000.

From: JayDee Unknown Maybe out of world trading on the Lindex. However that was supposed to be shut down to. "US$ Spent" is only a fictional number, it has no real meaning and isn't tied to the LindeX at all. "US$ Spent" is the sum of all L$ transactions divided by the exchange rate. If someone hands you L$1.3 million and you hand it right back, "US$ Spent" increases by $10,000. Tipjars, web stores like SLex and OnRez, games, vendors that refund or split proceeds, etc all artificially inflate the number (L$200 transaction as a tip + L$200 transaction when they log out of the tipjar) to the point where it's worthless.

The number seems to be right where it should be...

Even when the grid is down, the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus can still log in and run their landbots.
