meh for the login screen.... I wouldn't know how to fix that issue, but I can tell you how to skip past the stupid thing... add this to the end of the shortcut

-noprobe -login FirstName LastName Password

just know that the password is viewable by anyone that can edit that link.

In your preferences, which you should be able to access without logging in, try clearing the browser cache - not the usual network cache, but the browser cache.

Then try resetting your modem and your router in you have one.

This happened to me. I deleted and reinstalled the client. Sort of drastic, I know, but I wanted to check out the Release Candidate anyway, so used this as an excuse.

You mentioned you're using Windows Vista. As far as I know, Vista isn't supported yet, but that may have changed. Here's the link to the wiki page for Vista users:

Did you do an uninstall before doing a reinstall?

Exactly what version of Second Life?

Try installing the latest release candidate and see if that works.

So if I'm understanding you, you double click on the Second Life icon, the login screen appears, you ARE able to login with your username and password, and then the screen goes transparent? You are able to hear music streams, user interface clicks, and ambient sounds? Or none of the above? Still confused about what exactly you are experiencing...

Please specify, can you hear sounds or not? Music stream, user interface, etc.? If you CAN hear sounds but cannot see anything, I'd guess that maybe your video card has problems? Or that Vista has problems with your video card? I don't know.

Almost looks like a Vista/graphics driver overlay problem. On a newer system with Vista, going back to an older supported video driver isn't an option. You might try R-clicking on the SL shortcut --> properties --> compatability tab, and enabling the compatability mode for WinXP or maybe Win2000. Is worth a try... Also might help if you're not using the fancy Vista desktop interface and dont have any other programs open.

Hey Derbor, which version of card do you have? If you've got the same one as Amanshne, what's your driver date?

One quick question, AmanShne: One of your favorites is "Pies n such". Can you please direct the forum pie lovers (of which we are many) to this site?

<can't have a thread without mentioning pies, can we?>

Vista

2GB RAM

using the XP compatability on SL didnt work at first then I used the windows classic theme
on the desktp and suddenly after hours success thanks to this thread..... Well Done!
