Hi all,

I'm new to SL and have just rented my first property. Please could anybody tell me how I give access to other people? I heard there might be a control panel in the property but there isnt one. Asked landlord he didn't know what I meant and he hasnt come back to me regarding this question.

Thanks for reading and any help is very much appreciated.

Richard.

If you mean give access via door security, then you'd probably need to be the owner of the property.

If you're talking about people just coming to visit you, unless the land owner has restricted access, that shouldn't be a problem.

Ok you can try clicking on world at the top of your screen, going to about land and then clicking on the access and ban tabs. If you can control those then it's something you can configure.

If you don't have permission then it is a matter your landlord should be able to help you with.

Yes, sounds like tenants are not allowed to manage the access/ban lists. It's a good and a bad thing; the landlord is only protecting himself. It sounds like he has limited access to people in the group. If you can invite your friends into the group, you should be golden. Try inviting your friends in and see what happens.

Yes, all that should have been explained when you first talked with your landlord. Being able to invite your friends to your place is one of the basic things a landlord sets up at the beginning.

You sound like a nice guy, your landlord is lucky.

As a landlady, I provide a welcome packet with a note that explains what key group powers are enabled (that they can invite others, can control media, etc.) are and what prims are. Do you think anyone reads it? No offense to the OP, but without knowing more, I would be reticent to judge that he needs a better landlord.

Last night when we couldnt get around, I invited my neighbor over. I didn't put her in the group but merely gave her access to the land. Went to land>access>checked add avitar>add> then typed her name in>select and she hopped right over the fence. Of course we have a good L/L and he has it set up so we can invite anyone onto the land or ban their little bottoms if they are bad.

Cristalle, I'm sure you're right on all of your technical details, but could you explain how the ban lines could be a good thing, and what the landlord is protecting himself from? This is an innocent request for knowledge and not a bait for an anti-banline war.

This couldn't be more true. Most people don't read my note cards either. I thought about putting, "I AM A SLUM LORD, DON'T RENT FROM ME." on there, and see if anybody ever noticed.

There was a thread a while back about a tenant banning the landowner from the property. It was just not a good situation. That would require the landowner to buy back the land and re-deed to group just to evict the tenant. Not worth it to some; it just depends on how you slice it. Adding to the access list may be okay, but managing the ban list is not a good idea. I generally dislike ban lines and do not enable this feature as a matter of course. I would prefer that people get a security orb if they want people out... on top of my locks, privacy tints, and noscript, no object entry, and no build outside of the group. :P
