Well, I for one thought the Blah Shopping Thread had a building bent there for a bit but instead is looking to counter act the economic slump- all for it btw- not sure if i can do the time but if i can, count me in!

Anyhoo... friend asks me what am i thinking of for next project since the cage thing came out rather well (stuff I learned with that- set-up and implementation of freely available working door script; better tiny prim placement; many other things.) I had a thought I would like to ride a barge down the Nile... now, the simple thing would be to go find said barge and said Nile... but... I am thinking it would be interesting to make the barge then find the scripts and finally find the Nile...

And so for the first question - anyone seen a navigable Nile?

(This of course, after I finish playing with the furry centipede I inadvertently created...)

I haven't seen the Nile, O Queen...but I do recall seeing a pic of some very Egyptian looking pyramids here a long while back, when Windlight first hit the viewers. It was all blood red and stuff.

Does anyone recall that, and where it was taken?

(You supply the barge, sweetie...I'll supply the asp.)

Don't mind me. I seem to be in a fey and bloodthirsty mood today.

Perhaps not a Nile, but there's that big channel that runs through Nautilus City from the big citadel thing in the middle out to the... East, IIRC; that seems like it would make an Egyptian barge right at home.

I know there are free boat vehicle scripts out there somewhere. I made a one-prim plywood box "boat" from one at one point while fiddling with a completely unrelated problem somebody was having with assigning multiple vehicle seats. Anyway, probably you already know this, but pure physical vehicles are strictly limited to 31 as the total number of prims+passengers they can contain. There are tricks to give the illusion of more prims (e.g., an attachment worn by the driver--with at least the attachment point in a locked static pose), or using purely non-physical "vehicles" (which are just not as much fun to operate and require somewhat more scripting to not look totally silly; not sure, but I'd expect they probably lag the sim somewhat more, too).

Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure there was a passable barge at some Linden event... maybe the Concierge party, if anybody remembers?

Let me know when you need scantily clad galley slaves to man the oars. :o

It's not called the Nile...but back in the Panther Camp where I saw the cages...they have a very nice river complete with a lovely sleek boat where the Lady of course lounges languidly while the slave steers it. (Can't recall now if it was a long stick thing that moved the boat or oars...it's been awhile.)

All these reminiscences of that camp is making me think I should go spend some time there. Hanging with some women awhile might be a good thing.

ETA: I think TUi...(not sure if it's still in existence, but some of the former instructors from there now teach at I.C.E. and other schools...anyway....there was a class taught there on making a working canoe type boat. Might want to keep an eye out in the Education section of Events.

@ Quie - Nope- had no idea about the prim number limitation - thanks for bringing that up- so- lots of texturing to do for one thing - and i will search for vehicle scripts. Thanks for the suggestions too re the places it might be useful in - again- to be continued after i conquer furry caterpillars :D

I am in the market myself so I'll let you know if I can find the latest version 3.3 scripts anywhere.

If you're looking for the Nile, ask the Lindens who are in charge of communications, and also behind certain recent decisions made by Linden Lab. They're the Kings and Queens of de nile.
