Yes I know, this subject has been beaten like a dead horse, so I'm not going to even bother giving a big story, just need a simple answer.

Ok, but just a little background is needed.

New land, new neighbor. She put up ugly prim fence, but thankfully after some neigborly conversation with me and others, put up some kind of prim cypress hedge row instead. But, she wasn't exactly 'nice" about the whole thing, barely spoke to us. She put up ban lines to keep us all out, even though we assured her we had no intention of coming onto her property.

Ok, guess I will have to live with this. Put up my ban lines to her to show her how ugly it was for her also. Moved my house a bit to compensate, as much as possible, etc.

Unfortunately, for some reason, even standing in the middle of my land, I can still see her ban lines. Isn't this abnormal? The middle of my land? I have a 4096 plot, although it is long and thin, but it is 32' wide, so if I'm standing in the middle, isn't 18' a bit much to still be seeing those ban lines???

Plus they keep flashing at me - which a whole other issue we've been discussing here too. Some glitch I guess.

Again, whatever. If I can't do anything about it, I can't. If that is the nature of them, oh well, right? But I really don't think it is. On my last land, I am postiive they didn't go THAT far in.

Surely there must be SOMETHING I can put up on my property line to help diminish them somewhat? Some kind of prim hedge which may help, that won't be obtrusive to either of us, or any other neighbors?

As usual, thanks!

Seems odd that you still see them. Not sure what the distance has to be? I dont recall seeing my neighbors ban lines like that. How long has this been going on since the crazy weekend? Sure its just another glitch again. Do you think she would take them down and reinstall them? She doesnt sound like she wants to be bothered thou.
Good Luck with that.

I just got from vacation and I know things have been rather umm, awful? She's a new neighbor, bought the land while I was gone (in fact, I was going to buy it when I got back, should have grabbed it before I left, oh well).

Seems strange to me too. And yes, she is rather uncommunicative. Had her gal pal doing all the talking for her. No less, the "girlfriend" wound up coming on to me very heavily to boot. Like I need that to compound the problem.

Ban lines and alpha textures
04-08-2008 08:15
I haven't tried it yet with my own neighbor and his ban lines, but I seem to remember a discussion here in the forum that said ban lines were an alpha texture, and if you put a non alpha texture up near it, they won't show through.

Sorry I don't remember more of the discussion, but maybe searching the forum under ban lines and alpha textures will turn it up, if you need more info.

Please report back and let us know if it worked, if you do it. I unfortunately used an alpha texture on semitransparent glass wall around the boundaries, and not only do the ban lines still show, but the SL bug that can't sort the order of alpha textures is showing my other neighbor's megaprim tree border, instead of my glassblock wall, even though I'm 4 meters in from the property line all the way around. ARGH. Guess I'll be trying that non-alpha solution too, but it might not be as aesthetically pleasing. :(

I think it's a bug with the new viewer. Ban lines are not supposed to be visible from so far away.

One way to get rid of them is to put something in front of them that has no alpha channel. Plants have alpha channels for the transparent parts, and banlines have alpha channels (so you can see through all but the ban line). Whenever 2 textures with alpha channel are nearby, they'll often appear in the wrong orientation (the one behind appears in front). This is the "alpha channel sorting problem", and do not expect a solution for it any time soon.

Another way is to configure your client to use a totally clear texture for ban lines, but that helps only you and not others on your property. I don't know precisely how to do this but if you ask hopefully someone will pipe up.

I sort of remember that too, I'll do a search for that, just could not remember exactly what the name of the item was to look for. Thanks for jogging my memory!
