I bought a shape and when I attached it it seems to have attached over the original shape I used when I joined SL, causing my AV to look like an odd hybrid of the two. There must be a way to unattach the original shape no? Right clicking doesn't provide the option.

As far as i know you can only wear one shape at a time. When you put on a new shape the old one is removed all automatic like.
Try going into appearance mode. This, for some reason, clears the last outfit if it didn't happen by itself.
Worst case a clear cache and relog may fix you up. Preferences, network, clear cache, relog.

Wearing one shape should replace the other...what you're describing shouldn't be possible.

How did you attach it? Did you drag it on, click wear, click attach?
