I just got engaged in SL. When I get married in SL, can I change my last name or does it have to stay the same?
Thanks!

Good idea about the groups! I know it costs $100L to make a group. Can the group name be changed later, for free? or does it cost?

i believe you can change your tags in the group..not sure of the group name..but any group one of you own the tags can be what you want for the roles..like i have a group called her little darknest and i have booted fiancies out over time and made tags for new ones or just myself..you don't really have to name the group after your names at all..just the tags of the current hubby or luvaaa lol

I've known a couple who just made new alts at the same time with the same last name and used those alts as their mains, rather than go the whole route of paying to change their names.

And especially since you indicated you were new, Samantha, you can recreate your AV with your first name and fiance's last name, if it still exists - depending on how long he has been on SL. Or, as Sansarya said, if you're both relatively new, choose a new last name and both take it. ![]() And congratz! _____________________

the only thing is..it is like a tattoo..getting a name changed is only certain circumstances and you are stuck with it if something goes bad with your marriage..make him change his last name ..it's the new ages and us girls should be able to keep ours too lol

I like the idea of creating the group, because that is the easiest way to do it. However, I can't figure out how to give myself a custom title. I can change it to owner, officer, or member, but not a custom one. Any ideas?
I though about creating an alt, but even in the 3ish weeks that I've been here, I've collected a lot of stuff, plus I have a premium membership (and have land), so a new Avatar isn't really an option. Thanks for the suggestion though! |

Thanks for the suggestion though! In the group menu, just select "Create New Role". It's Under the "Memebrs and Roles" tab I believe. _____________________

Okay, this probably won't go over well but... you've only been in sl ~3 weeks and you are already engaged? I know things move fast in sl, but it seems as if you've hardly had enough time to learn what sl is all about.

I like the idea of creating the group, because that is the easiest way to do it. However, I can't figure out how to give myself a custom title. I can change it to owner, officer, or member, but not a custom one. Any ideas? Like said, you can create new roles or edit the existing ones. First off, bring on the Group Information window and the tab Members & Roles. You'll see three tabs named Members, Roles and Abilities. You'll need the Roles tab for your intention. There, you'll get an overview of all current roles and their titles. I suggest that you leave the Owner tag as it is and hit the button "Create New Role..." - twice actually, one role for you, one for your partner. Name the new role like "My Title" in the Name section and in the Title section, you write your custom title. Same for your partner. You could also add a description, but it's pretty useless IMHO. However, adjusting the abilities of the role should be done. I suggest that you activate the ability to "Change Role names, titles and descriptions" for your new roles, so any of you can adjust their custom title at any time. Most options are important for land management though and shouldn't matter too much if you run a private group just for the two of you, just for the titles. In the Members tab, you can assign an avatar to one or multiple roles at once. Choose a name from the member list and you'll see the list of available roles and their abilities in the lower part of the window. Each member should be checked as "Everyone" member by default, perhaps as owners in your case. Highlight your name from the member list and check the box for your new custom title in the Assigned Roles part. Then assign your partner to the other new role. You're done. |
