When SL was down the other day it has left me with lots of trouble.

first i could not rez items even on my own land....
finally that fixed i think

that same day i noticed once again about half of my folders are empty, all my new items are lost..everything i have bought in the past say month are gone.
the folders ar there but they are empty...

the last time this happened i did everything on the hints guide to fix it..nothing. again i have done it..again nothing. they are gone...

clothes, textures, furniture..everything.....

finally after 5 months the last time they came back but why is this happening?
why do i have to either buy them again to use what i just got or wait for months on end?

if anyone has any new ideas on how to fix this please let me know...

a frustrated user.

clear your cache and relog in. give it a few hours now that SL is having a issue at the moment. Usually clearing your cache can/may resolve the problem. If not, send a support ticket in with the names of your items. You can look those up in your transactions history.

Xplorer's correct! And when you log in after clearing your cache, log in to a low-lag sim. (I use Cyclops because it's an easy name to remember.) Then search your inventory and refrain from any action (IMing, etc.) while your inventory loads.

This will improve your chances of getting your things back. I hope you're successful!!

*bump on Xplorer's suggestion*

Clearly cache and just relogging isn't any good if the sim you're relogging to is having issues though.

Edit / Preferences, General tab, make sure "Show Start Location" is checked. On the log-in screen, under your name you'll be able to type the name of a sim. Linden owned full water sims (not openspaces) are usually best. Hahne, Kara, etc. The water sims on the newer continents are all openspaces so they're not the best choice.

When you log back on, use View / Statistics Bar and check pending asset operations (Pending downloads and pending uploads). If either is not 0 (or frequently dropping back to 0) find another sim to try, even stuck at 1 it'll be unreliable.

Open your inventory, type in anything random that's a fair amount of letters (for some odd reason typing abcdefg will fetch faster than just abc).

Wait until the top of your inventory window stops saying "fetched" and displays the total item count in your inventory (you can IM, just don't touch your inventory and do not switch away from SL to another proggie while it's fetching).

Write down the total amount of items, check if what you were missing came back and do another clear cache, relog into a working sim, fetch inventory. Rinse and repeat until the amount of items hasn't changed in the last two relogs.

Not sure if it actually works or not, but some people claim that clear cache/relog/refetch made a difference for them after 6+ tries so that might be something to consider as well. Do keep track of the total count whatever you do.

---

There's a few different ways things can just *poof* from your inventory as well:
* been there for months, gone now (barring accidently moving the folder/items somewhere else, go through the above, chances are very high they'll come back)
* bought something, appeared in inventory tp'ed away/logged off and gone now (the sim cached the inventory addition, but it never actually made it to the asset/inventory server, low to no chance it'll come back)
* variation on the above: took something rezzed in-world, appeared in inventory, vanished after tp/logging off

In general you'll want to stay clear of doing anything inventory related (other than wearing things, opening notecards, etc) if there's a stuck pending download/upload on the sim (buying things, rezzing things, unpacking boxes, taking things to inventory, transfering items, moving items in your inventory, etc) and do regularly clear your cache and compare the item count to what it should be (write it down, or make a mental note).

It's a pain, and it doesn't make you safe, just safer, but it does cut down on some of the more frequent ways people loose inventory so you'll have to decide whether the effort is worth the gain :).

Same here, I am hoping that it's just the slowness of the asset server, that it will rectify itself. That has happened in the past. But I have had several complaints from residents after buying my items. Some as old as a year, packed in rezzers. And the inventory of the rezzers has not changed, however some only rez about 40% of their contents now. I assume the rest 'ghost rezzes' and isn't really there. I can walk through where the walls were before, so doubtful. Yeah, it really sucks. If it continues I will just be deleting them from my shops, I am so upset that I don't even want to bother repairing the builds. Really over SL as it is. This isn't helping me want to stay.

Great post, Kitty. I wish you'd create a new thread on this for a sticky. (I know we're getting a lot of stickies in the forum, but this would be extremely helpful to a lot of residents.)

I picked up a freebie a few days ago. Tried to wear it today, got "object missing from database". Went back to get another copy, since it was free. Still getting same message.

Well, if the original went missing, you'll get the message for all the copies, too.

I keep seeing these recommendations and tips for getting things back and have done all of it, repeatedly, for months and have yet to get anything back. While, for me, it is only a few empty folders which amount to a small fraction of my inventory, it is still annoying to want to use something and find it isn't there.

I'm not saying these procedures don't work for some people, just that I have yet to see any of them work for me.

There's no doubt that some people experience permanent inventory loss. I'm sorry this happened to you, Kathy.

The object is in inventory. I can see it there. So I thought it got corrupted in the SL borkage, which is why I went back to get a copy of the original. But now it looks like the original is the corrupted one. But since it's a freebie, I'm hesitating to ask the creator about it...

Those procedures have never worked for me, either. :(

I've had "settings" notecards in stuff go the same way -- all the copies of the notecard went bad, too.

Let the vendor, no point in dispensing broken freebies.

Thanks, Beezle - I've IM'd the creator but she was offline. I told her I was just letting her know about the issue and wasn't sure whether others were experiencing the same thing.

These are things i have tried as well...
the last time it happened they just suddenly appeared again after months and after i had gotten most of them again....
i will just have to wait and see if they return in time..though its getting frustrating to put money into something and loosing it right after..

the last time this happened to me was when they were down as well....
it must be something with their back up or something....

Thank you everyone that has made suggestions i will keep trying the clearing cashe and relogging again as well as going to the other sims that will have a lower lag...

That happend to my koi, but she was already rezzed in her water but it still showed in inventory... and the wonderful people who made her replaced her because she became a floater after the "SL" hell day. Kudos to this wonderful creator!
