I'm new (no kidding) and I'm renting until I figure out how to cheaply own land. I thought I'd add a plant or small tree or something so I tried to drag one out from SL's built in library. No tree appeared, but now I've got a green glow that spans both floors and is sometimes visible from outside.
Further, I've got seme blue and white dots blinking in and out around that space and they are definately viewable from outside. Today, I had a grey sphere orbiting the area until I clicked it.
I'd prefer not to contact the landlord about this just yet (just like a RL renter).
This also seems to be majorly affecting the Alpha/Window issue as it seems I have a minor jungle on my first floor.
If needed, I can post a Snapshot to my blog (there doesn't seem to be a way to post images here).
Thanx for the help.

This sounds really weird, but also like some of the many glitches that are happening in world lately.
Maybe it really is a tree that just hasn't rezzed yet. I would go to the top of the screen and click on the name of the land to bring up the About Land menu, then click on the Objects tab. If you have control of some of the land options, there will be some buttons, Show objects owned by parcel owner, or Show Objects owned by others. This will highlight or outline the objects, and maybe you can see the thing well enough to grab it and take it back into your inventory or return it to whomever left it there if it's not yours. You can then try to place the tree again. Be careful not to return your house if it's your landlord's.
Oh, and welcome to the forums, oh corny Colonel.

I had this happen. It turned out to be a particle-infested bomb/missle type thing. Go to view, then highlight transparent, and a lot of stuff should turn red/transparent on your screen. look for something like a box/sphere, and try to find the root prim (main prim) of it. Good luck with that. When it happened to me, a roommate had tried to rez a tree, and it turned out to be the particle thing, glowing green radioactive thing throwing off blue and white sparks everywhere.

From: ColonelKernel Biegeleisen I'd prefer not to contact the landlord about this just yet (just like a RL renter). Yes, I suspect your landlord may have a strict policy concerning his tennants growing mutated hooch triffid hybrid plants

If you don't mind having someone drop by leave the location and I'll take a look at it. New forums users might want to check out the User CP, i.e., the User Control Panel at http://forums.secondlife.com/usercp.php?, which has a link near top left of the forum screen. In the edit options, down near the bottom, there's a place to select the style of editor used creating posts. If you set it to full WYSIWYG, you get a display that includes a button for inserting images stored elsewhere on the web into the post. One can also just surround the image URL with IMG tags. More info on the vBcode here is at http://forums.secondlife.com/misc.php?do=bbcode

From: Danielle Harrop I had this happen .... Thanx, Danielle. Okay, the green ghost is gone, but his children still remain. Under Transparent View I could see that those blue and white bits were artifacts of the orbiting spheres. I couldn't figure out the "prim" part of it (although I suspect it has something to do with "PRIMitive shapes" which form the basis of the SL's models.

Whew. I thought it was in your *real* apartment, from the title.
...a much relieved Desmond, hearing the Dr Who theme playing in the background...

It's possible you may have the ability to return the object.
You may need to get the land owner to return the object.
If you don't have return power, then you might be able to get the land owner to give you return power.
You might need to drag select to select all the object in the area so you can find the ones creating the particles.

YES! GOT 'EM!
Going into edit mode (didn't realize I could do that without selecting something to edit first). A couple random drags and then I got them and they froze. Then Rotary Select / Delete and they're gone.
Thank you, every one.

Sheesh.
SL is really being bad now.
Congrats on your victory against the blue and white particles.
To enter edit mode, click control 3, to create, control 4.
