I want to try driving (piloting? whatever the correct word is) a speed boat in SL. Am I permitted to do so on open ocean? I can think of a number of islands which are surrounded by miles and miles of water, with no other land in sight. I know I can't build a skyhouse over such, but what about cruising on it in a boat for a short while?
If that isn't allowed, where may I use a boat?

Yes you can. And I think the Lindens recently opened a public channel to do just that.
The problem is often finding a place to 'rez' (put) your boat - unless it is a wearable boat.

Plug "Barbarossa" into your map search and that will get you to an island that is gateway to the Blake Sea and its rez zones to the east, and Mainland including Nautilus City to the west. There's a rez zone on Barbarossa too and about 5 zones around the Nautilus City island (look for the buoys).

Many thanks, people. Barbarossa / Blake Sea was a good suggestion. They even gave me a free sail boat so I could try water travel.
Melita: off-topic, but allow me to applaud you and Rime re Free For All.

Thank you. And ooh - I like that name. I might just grab that one too if it isn't taken (if you don't care.) Maybe that can be for a different type of freebies. N E way thank you so much.

From: DancesWithRobots Soyer Which is all the time. It was just me and one other visitor four hours ago. Unless I've got the places mixed, which is quite possible.
