What can I do with unwanted, no-transfer items?

I figured I would try selling them, until I found out that all my unwanted stuff is no-transfer. Then I figured I'd just send a message to the original owners/creators, until I found out that the creators are all listed as "unknown."

This is tough. I spent a fortune and I don't want this stuff anymore. Am I just supposed to delete my items and get on with it, or can I actually do something about this stuff? Do you guys think that the store owners would accept refunds (somehow) if I sent them messages?

Also -- how common is this sort of situation? I kind of feel bad because I thought I would use this stuff ... that is, until I found much, much better stuff. *Whine, complain, sob*

If you don't want to delete it, you can always pack it all in a box to take up less room in your inventory. I have one named "Free Crap".

You can't give it back to the creator/store owner either, no transfer means no transfer to anybody. I know how you feel though, and when I just can't stand it anymore, I've deleted it.

It's unlikely that you'll get any refunds for no-transfer items, because you could still use them. It's an easy thing for a scammer to say 'Hey I don't want this but I can't give it away, I promise I'll delete it if you give me my money back'.

Some, though, will, if you're lucky, but I wouldn't count on it. Also, while in inventory, things often say unknown for creator. Rez it on the ground, or attach it, and it should show properly.

As to what you can do with no-transfer items you don't want... delete and move on. You can't give it away, you can't sell it, likely won't get a refund and even then you'd just be deleting it in the end, so just delete it.

Yup. All you can do is delete it. Or, so as Damien suggested and put a copy of all of it in a box and then take the box into your inventory.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone. I didn't think about my items being non-transferable even to the owner!

For now, my solution will be to put everything into a box ... although, I totally think that anybody else would be able to put better use to my extra things. Thanks again.

Well that's really the problem, isn't it?

If you own a sim, or a large plot of land, you could rez some of these items for others to enjoy.. assuming we're talking furniture, or skyboxes, or whatever. You could rent out your furnished land... but good luck with that.

Honestly, I'd just put them in a folder in your inventory, labelled "stuff", and forget about them for now. 6 months, a year, or two years from now, you might be living a different second life, and those items might be very desireable again. Or if they're really just garbage, delete them and move on with your life... and just use this as a learning experience to shop-around more thoroughly before spending the big bucks.

But this is what no-transfer means.
Just like when you buy something that is no-copy, you only get one.

Also--before you get upset at the creators who sold all the stuff "no transfer" keep two things in mind:

1) There was a SL exploit that for a very long time would allow copies to be made of "no copy" items, which pushed many creators away from offering them, as time went on and LL did not fix the exploit.

2) A substantial number of SL consumers seem to prefer "no transfer" items that they can make copies of. For example, if you break or lose a "no transfer/yes copy" house or vehicle, you can easily rez another copy out of your inventory. And with "no transfer/yes copy" clothing, various combinations can be copied and put in folders that can be easily dragged onto your avatar to change outfits instantly.

My personal preference is for "yes transfer/no copy" items, but I've become resigned to their relative rarity in SL.

I have seen a few more creators start offering both choices, but they either have to use more prims or sell items using a script.

When given the choice, I will almost always take Transfer on my clothing - I buy so much that I want to be able to give it away.

Do both. Sell mod/copy versions, and trans versions.

Personally, I only sell mod/copy items, and say if they want trans they can contact me.

Assuming that we are talking about non-clothing items, if you belong to any groups which have a shared inworld facility for members perhaps you could rez the item in the clubhouse/common area for all to use.

Contact a group owner or officer and show them the couch/skybox/prim chicken/hot tub/iron maiden/whatever. If they want the group to have it they may give you rezzing abilities on group land, then others will be able to enjoy your non-transferrable item.

"No Transfer" and "No Mod."

These two things help keep most content sellers from going completely looney in their obsession, paranoia and delusions that everyone is out to copy whatever it is they sell. With the above they can sleep better at night.

For them it's like their own sl security blanket. After all, if they continue to insist everyone is out to copy their merchandise then it must be true being that no one but them has the ability to create anything in sl.

According to them.

Everyone has the ability to create, but some would rather just lurk and nay-say when the opportunity arises.

Now, now..

Ricardo creates plenty.

1) Dissent

2) Discord

3) Dysentery

n) et cetera

Just because no one appreciates the value of his creations doesn't mean he isn't a "creator".

yup, I'm a notorious boxer. I label boxes and store them inside other boxes.

I might have a problem....
