So I go to the Knowledge Base, and I read that "You can create up to five accounts per household." It also mentions that your main account is your first free basic account.
So am I right to say that including my free basic account I can make 4 more accounts? Or am I right to say that I can create 5 ALT accounts on top of my free basic account? It's not really clear as the word ALT is used, your free basic account wouldnt be considered your ALT account, but just wondering anyway. Thanks.

You do not have to pay for additional (alt) accounts. The KB is misleading on that. They aren't really enforcing the 5 account limit.
There is no material difference between a "main" account and an alt account. They look and act the same. Many people use a newer avvie as their main personage and don't use their original avvie anymore.
Tip: Create a unique e-mail address for each account, maybe forwarding all the mail to a central SL address, then you have a completely hassle-free setup.

I believe, in reality, you can make as many alts as you can unique email addresses.

What would be the difference between someone using seven alts and a student condo with seven inhabitants all behind the same router? Technically both scenarios are exactly the same, when you use unique e-mail addresses. Remember: SL does not use the concept of a single account maintaining multiple in-world avatars like other places. It's always a 1:1 relationship. PS: The "multiple avatar" feature is one of the things I liked about onrez, but that's a different story.

From: Jesseaitui Petion The e-mail addy doesn`t even have to be unique anymore =\ Yes and no. During registration it can happen the database tells you that this email addy is already in use by another resident, so at least during registration you need a unique addy each time. You can, however, directly afterwards change this addy to one already in use multiple times.
