Hi folks,

I'm new. Durr. Wanted to try this whole doohickey out, but twould appear connection is impossible, or some such. When I click the login button it goes through the whole song and dance, til coming upon the region handshake, and then telling me

I wondered if it was my firewall, because that popped up the first time wondering about letting the program through, naturally I clicked unblock, and the thing almost immediately gave me the above message. Turned it off altogether, and no dice. I haven't a clue why it isn't working. Halp?

You might try the Technical Issues forum: /111/1.html

Sorry, I have no clue.

Try logging in to a different region - might help.

On Preferences - General - tick "Show Login location on starter screen" or words to that effect. Try logging in to Mohrr or Bodega.

Preferences are under Edit on the login page.

Does anyone think a tracert to login.agni.lindenlab.com would be useful at this point?

I get an average of 182ms with that. Considering that for much of tonight the SL lag meter has been running in excess of 600ms and dropping over 10% of packets (and this is getting to be a frequent problem now) *something* is wrong, somewhere. There have been network problems in SL for a couple of weeks now, and getting worse.

Can't hurt to try turning off computer, router, modem, etc. for a few minutes.

SL does have connection problems on it's end from time to time.

Ports need to be opened and enabled properly. Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP, and 13000-13050/UDP.

You might try running tracert from the command window, or using a program called winmtr. You can find directions on this by going to the knowledge base and searching for tracert. You might be able to get to the knowledge base at http://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417 . SL makes it hard to give links to its help information in the knowledge base. I just copied the info from the knowledge base to the wiki, the wiki copy is at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Packet_Loss .

Checked the firewall, and added all the Second Life exe. I could find to the exceptions list, but no luck, so I turned it off, but still no.

I did try a couple regions before, and tried your suggestions just now, Therian, but nothin. Turning off the router and computer hasn't done anything for me, either. What about my location, does that relate to the region I should be logging into?

The part about enabling ports properly is done in your router settings, at least it is on my system.

Have you run a tracert or tried the winmtr program?

You can try logging into a quiet sim like Mohrr by writing "Mohrr" in the text box accessed by ticking the "Show location on start screen" box.

My thought was just that the sim you were logging into might've been having its own difficulties.

OK, I just tried the winmtr program, and according to the wiki, the problem's on my side. The first host has 0 loss, but the second hostname is completely unresponsive. I'm not sure how to enable port settings on my router, or if I even can (the phone service, router/internet and cable all come with my room), so this is probably what's fracking me over?

Dorm room?

If it's a dorm room you might be able to get the school to open ports as needed, or you might be out of luck.

Maybe, but it's so late right now, like, 7:45. Unless you know anything about Cisco IP 7911 phones. Maybe there's something there I can fiddle with before I pass out.

I just copied the info from the knowledge base to the wiki, the wiki copy is at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Packet_Loss .
This information was removed by another resident. You can now find it at http://suezannecbaskerville.wordpress.com/second-life-packet-loss-from-the-sl-kb , which will at some point become findable in Google, etc., and doesn't require you to be logged in to read or use tricks to make a link that actually takes you to the page you want to see.

I am getting this exact same error screen. Have tried different alts. Have tried different locations. Have tried more than on version of the Nicholaz viewer.

Help?
