Just recently, my NVIDIA updated to a new driver and all of that good stuff.
I logged on tonight and out of nowhere, the entire upper body/arms torso/legs of my avatar was completely black so I started detaching things to see what could be the source, and it seems that shoe-bases turn the torso and legs black (which they never have before) and gloves turn the arms and upper body black (also.. this has never happened either).
I'm not the only one who sees it though, I went to three of my friends in-world and they all had said that they see it too.. so is the problem with SecondLife or is it with the new NVIDIA driver that was recently installed?
If it's the driver, how can I get the old driver back? and if it's SecondLife, how long will it take for it to correct itself?
Oh and another thing.. I've tried cleaning the cache and everything, I've also tried different skins.

It's a known problem, and I expect there'll be posts directing you to the appropriate JIRA. If you can't roll back your drivers, you can work around the problem by disabling Palletised Textures (CTRL-ALT-F7) then rebaking. This needs to be done every time you log in.
Since I've started getting this problem, I sometimes get awkward flaps of fabric around the bottom of the pants I'm wearing. The fix above doesn't always cure this, but going into Appearance and briefly shortening my pants works. No good if they are no-mod, of course.

So, bear with me for a moment, a stupid question but, if I don't ask then I'll never learn..
How do I rollback the drivers?

How do I rollback the drivers? I've not done this, because apart from the SL bug that I can work around I'm happy with the drivers as they are. Someone will probably post instructions and a link to the old drivers before long.

can try ctrl-alt-7 to turn off palletized textures and then rebake textures by using ctrl-alt-r If your water is black also you will need to go to Edit-Preferences-Graphics- make sure custom box is checked then disable Atmospheric Shaders.. If that does not help then you will need to revert back to original drivers by uninstalling and reinstalling from your original disk. If you do not have or hard to find your original disk or driver then go to Nvidias site here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us and put in your card specs and search, you should see old drivers listed at the bottom. or can try the beta to see if they fixed anything (recommend you don't) Good luck

I've tried rebaking and it doesn't work, the gloves and all shoebases turn portions of the body black or texture portions of the body. I tried to find the specs for my nvidia but I'm not sure what the model and such is, in my control panel it just says nvidia 7100, but I don't see that on the page, so I'm not sure what I'm looking for or where to look.. I was sure that rebaking would solve the problem because it has worked for other people, but it isn't working for me..

When you are logged into Sl click on help and then About Second Life. it will give your video card specs there . should read something kinda like Graphics Card: GeForce 6800 GT/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!

Have you definitely turned palletised textures off before rebaking? You need to have the Advanced menu active (CTRL-ALT-D) and then make sure that Advanced... Rendering... Features... Palletised Textures is unchecked. CTRL-ALT-F7 toggles this on & off, so if you hit it twice, you might just turn it back on again.

I had the 'torn hem' before, but hadn't seen it for ages. Now I've got the palletised texture problem, I see it all the time, so I assumed they were related. Just happy there's a simple fix

Yes, I rebaked properly, I had this page up along with SL because I kept forgetting which one to do first, so I had this open so I knew for sure I would do it right.
Right now I'm downloading an older driver and hopefully that will solve the problem, if not then maybe it's an SL thing that will pass with time.
Thanks for the help from everyone.

I had the same problem, but the solution worked for me, although i had to press Ctrl-Alt-R (Rebake Textures) for several times. Maybe for each clothing separetely. Thanks and Greetings Cynthia

I thought I read somewhere that the latest RC now handled the problem with the new graphic drivers, so you could download and try that.
