something really wierd just happened...
logged into SL to find myself standing right there, one of my freinds had said i have been there all night but i've been logged off all night last night
when i opened the IM window to send who ever this was an IM they vanished, and there profile is my profile

That's does happen. Seems that sometimes when a person logs off their AV doesn't disappear, they stick around as a "ghost". It's never happened to me, not that I know of at least. I've heard that normally when you log in to SL and return to the sim where the "ghost" is, then the "ghost" disappears.

I think some people do this in RL too. They log out of SL, get up from the computer and see themselves putting away the vacuum cleaner.

I get the feeling that ghosting occurs when something in the system doesn't quite let go of the connection. Usually, it results in you being unable to log in for a bit.. and sometimes, you can and find yourself standing there next to yourself. Very confusing, but oh, so entertaining!

During one annoying period of disconnections I managed to ghost twice, so on the 3rd time of logging in there were 2 ghosts there waiting to greet me. I've never met anyone else that managed to do this.
