Payment info -- can two people use the same credit card?

Is it possible for two people to use the same credit card to satisfy the payment info on file requirements? Or would that automatically flag the accounts as alts and potentially cause problems? Or is the limitation that you can only verify with a credit card that is in your name?

I believe that two accounts can use the same card, as a max of 2 per household. However I am thinking back to 2006 here so it might well have changed ...

Nothing that you can do will 'flag accounts as alts'. You can't even link accounts intentionally. I have several accounts that have identical real-world and credit card info, and as far as LL is concerned, they remain 'seperate people' (unless LL investigates an Abuse Report against one of them).

Yes, you can put several accounts on the same credit card, and I don't think they would have any issues if, say, a husband and wife in the same house and at the same postal address listed their correct names with the associated payment info, using one credit card. No limit on how many, as long as you don't do anything bad with the accounts. If the Lindens determine you are "abusing" the option of having lots of alts, the Lindens retain the option to restrict how many accounts you can have. But they hardly ever play that acrd now. They would rather inflate their membership numbers.

At sign-up, you only get asked for payment info if you apply for a Premium account. If you decline to go Premium, you have to take an extra step after creating the account, and come to the LL website to add credit card info, if you want that free account to be "Payment info on file" or to be able to buy L$.

Unless you plan to have the second account buy land, there's really no reason to have more than one Premium account, or one account with payment info. The one that already has payment info on file can buy all the L$ either account needs, and can give L$ to the other account as needed.

I thought it was four people per household, two per a card, back in the old times?

Now, I have no clue.

The old rule was max of 5 accounts per payment method, and two per real person. That actually clearly meant multiple people could use the same credit card. That rule is long dead, however.

I have a premium account on my husbands card, and he as "Payment info on file" with his card.

Though this was done when we signed up back in 2006.

Thanks for the info. :)

Its true that my fiancé and I don't really need two accounts with payment info on file for linden purchases, but he keeps wanting to post to the forums. ;) Its too bad that its required just for that.

I think for LL there will be no problem as long as you pay :).

The good thing about having two premium accounts is that each one can buy a 512sqm parcel one next to each other and have a nice place to live without paying any fee :).

Considering the 300L weekly stipend you will get aprox. US$ 50 amount per year so if you choose annual payment (US$ 72) you only pay aprox. US$ 22. :D.

Yes, I can understand that. All my alts do have Payment Info on file. Partly that does allow them to be able to post here, and partly that prevents them from being restricted from any in-world areas that don't allow "No payment info on file" avatars to enter the parcel. I've never had any issues adding more accounts to a single payment method.

hehe, exactly what I do, with the addition that I created a group & deeded the land for the 10% bonus. So I have a 1120m parcel and pay no tier. My accounts are old enough that I'm on the L$400 stipend, which means that one account basically pays for itself.

To answer the OP, I created both my accounts with the same payment details and LL have never made a fuss.

LL does consider different accounts to be entirely independent, except when it comes to abuse resolution.

You have to do something pretty awful before they'd go after alts though (suspension generally won't affect alts, but a permanent ban can).

Shame. This means people can act dreadfully and get away with it.
