A Billing Question :

I've never done this before, so excuse the newbie-like question.

I'm currently holding 512sq.m of land so I've never been charged a 'Land Use Fee' for using it. But now, I need more land - and with it comes the land use fee. What I need to know is; how will my card be billed?

-Once a month?
-Once at the start of 12 months?
-Once at the end of 12 months?

I'm hoping it's not once a month because I'd be charged a transaction fee every month if it works like that.

Advice appreciated.

It's once a month...sorry!

At the end of each billing cycle, based on your peak usage.

ie your billing date is on the 20th

10th November, you buy 1024 sq m
20th November, you get billed.
22nd November, you but 4096 sq m
4th December you sell the 4096 sq m
10th December you are billed for the 1024 + 4096 even though at billing date you only actually own 1024.

If you do 'tier down' remember to manually do it on the website - it will automatically tier up, but for some reason it doesn't go down when you sell land and drop a tier.

It's once a month but you can put US$ for 6 months or a year into your account.
They take first the money that's in your US$ balans; when that is empty they charge the credit card.

You will be charged once a month for the tier fee for the land over 512m.

True, just put some money into your account ($60US if you only hold 1024) and each month they'll draw from that before they charge your card for anything.

Yes, you can keep a USD balance on your account to cover tier, but bear in mind that any L$ purchases will also reduce the total.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Right, I found the option for adding US$ credit to my account. But what about fees for buying credit into my account - how does that work?

Let's just say I bought US$50 of credit, would I actually have that amount in my US$ balance, or would it be reduced by a fee for adding credit? I'm not sure there is such a fee (there shouldn't be) but thought I'd better ask anyway.

Thanks again.

As long as it went straight in as US$, into your US$ balance, then you would get the exact amount. You would pay exchange fees if you convert some or all of it into L$, which you don't want to do for this purpose.

Thanks Stephen.

But land is purchased with L$ - so what would happen in those circumstances?

Let's say I had US$50 in my US balance, but 'nothing' in my L$ balance. Then I decide to buy some land (I mean actual purchase here, not the land use fee), where will the payment be taken from? Would they charge my card again, or just take it from my US$ balance instead?

I don't get it really. On the one hand the US$ balance looks like something that isn't touched unless I specifically request it, but on the other, it sounds as if it would be automatically checked for funds before resorting to billing my card.

I suppose what I'm asking is; would EVERYTHING that costs money in SL look to my US$ balance 'first' before trying to charge my card - or is the $US balance only used for very specific things?

Thanks again.

As long you have money in the US$ balans they do not use your credit card.

You won't be able to buy land for L$ if you don't have any in your account - I think you'll be prompted to buy some using either the US$ or by charging your card, not sure exactly which.

Right, I get it now.

Well, I'll go ahead with my plans - and if I make a mistake - I'll learn by it.

Thanks all :-)
