Well, this was amazing. Remember a couple of blog posts back, "Lights On At the Lab", a lot of us took Ginsu Linden to task for painting LL's "openness"in a too-favorable light?
Well, he hasn't changed his mind. But, wonder of wonders, he posted an update to his blog entry showing that he'd actually READ all of the responses! That's the sort of feedback we need, Ginsu...an indication that you guys are listening to us.
We might not agree on some things, but it's good to know that we've been heard. This is a good Friday!
(This post actually should've been a comment to the blog, but entries aren't open any more, so it's here instead.)

Perhaps Ginsu is the sharpest knife in the drawer. I read that too and was mildly surprised.

Ginsu is the lawyer who wrote the "go ahead and proceed" letter to the person who made a spoof site related to SL earlier. That story was reported on This Is True, a humor site, where it earned the comment: "A lawyer with common sense and a company with a sense of humor? Maybe Second Life really _is_ a dream world."

If Ginsu can develop the data into something meaningful and then address the concerns (not just Ginsu) then it's a step in the right direction.

i reckon ginsu will go on a one man crusade within ll to change this and that, then will come to realise the futility of it. im not optimistic about this.

Actually, I believe that Ginsu is doing nothing but saying what the rest are doing. Many people assume that LL isn't listening, but if you pay attention, you realize that they are. Also, just because they listen, doesn't mean they will do things your way.

I'm guardedly optimistic. Ginsu is pretty high up in the corporate food chain and it is manifestly obvious that he actually READ the 149 entries. That, in itself, is encouraging. The fact that he commented with a fairly nice touch of self deprecating humor is encouraging as well. We do not know yet if he got the message, indeed it may be impossible to completely get "the message" becuase there are so many messengers.
If Ginsu and his colleagues at LL just gert the idea that things are not working the way they should be; that paying customers are getting angry and LOOKING for a SL alternative; and that two way communication between LL and the customer base is in LL's best interests, then something has been accomplished.
I have been a pretty outspoken and vehement critic of LL for some of its policies and decisions. When they do something right, I have an obligation to notice and comment.
Way to go, Ginsu!!! Good job and I hope you continue communicating with us in the same vein.

I wonder if he read mine. I got there too late and had to put mine on a blog entry lower down.
It bugs me that only the first 150 (or 100, more often) people to get there can post.

Yeah, I saw that too. I was really impressed with: From: ginsu Thanks, everyone, for your comments - I’ve read through the first 149. Please note Robin responded in a comment. Try to follow that link, especially if you like 404 errors. Yes, I know, broken links happen on the net, but when you report "32% Linden Lab sucks! You’re full of lying, hypocritical corporate bull, and you’ll never do anything right!" and can't get a link right in the previous paragraph, it does sort of shout "comical irony". Incidentally, the proper link is: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/10/11/lights-on-at-the-lab/#comment-493965 which I admit that I got by manually changing a "08" to "11" in the URL for which I expect my account will be suspended.

They always read the comments. They also frequent the forums.
The crappy signal/noise means that they usually don't reply, though.

..and still people shout "fix this", "fix that", "gimme back my VAT", and generally use the comments section of the blog as a general forum. Edit: Usagi, don't know if you're reading this, but I've wondered for a while why you're posting as U M and signing "U sagi M usashi". Did they start blocking your comments by keyword or something? Just curious.

From: Sindy Tsure They always read the comments. They also frequent the forums. Are you sure? The common wisdom has been that they don't even think of the forums since Linden Answers was shut down and there is little evidence that they do read the blog comments. Do you have reason to belive otherwise? This isn't a challenge; I'm just genuinely surprised to see someone say that.

fwiw Mal, I've only been to a couple of office hours, but in both of them (neither of which were about communication with residents), Lindens mentioned what had been said recently in blog comments.

If "common wisdom" is that a blog update that explictly talks about blog comments is proof that they don't read comments, I'll keep with uncommon wisdom. If you're surprised, it's because you refuse to see anything but the bad in LL. I expect you'll deny that but virtually every one of your posts that mentions LL shows otherwise. /me shrugs.

Last I checked, one swallow does not a summer make. I hope more than you would believe that this represents a positive sea change for LL. But please forgive me for being jaded by continual failed promises every six months or so that "things will really get better this time".

If "common wisdom" is that a blog update that explictly talks about blog comments is proof that they don't read comments, I'll keep with uncommon wisdom. One swallow does not a summer make. I hope more than you can likely imagine that this marks a positive sea change for LL. Why? Because I'd invested heavily in this grand experiment and have wanted them to excel at their endeavor. Please excuse me for having become jaded by failed quarterly promises that "we'll do better now". From: someone If you're surprised, it's because you refuse to see anything but the bad in LL. I expect you'll deny that but virtually every one of your posts that mentions LL shows otherwise. I couldn't possibly deny that until the last few weeks, LL has been acting in a manner insulting to idiots in almost every facet of their enterprise nor that I've been saying as much. You did happen to catch me on a day where I'd in fact been laudatory* of what looks like nascent professionalism which has been sorely lacking. When I ask for evidence contrary to my experiences, I'm sincere. I was pleased to read Nika's post above. I would have liked to have heard your experiences that were contrary to mine. For the nonce I remain hopefully skeptical. * /111/0c/216488/1.html#post1716156
