" Insufficient permissions to view script"

Hi,

That's the message I get today when I try to install the Hippo-Tech door plugin.
Before yesterday's SL upgrade it worked without any problem.
Do you think it can be "because" of that upgrade ?

Many thanks

I wouldn't blame the update -- the asset server has been acting up for a couple of weeks now, and isn't nearly as healthy as their blog post claims.

I got the same "permissions" error when trying to read a notecard last night, so it isn't just you. Kind of hard to "read the rules" at a new sim if you can't read the notecard.

This appears to have nothing to do with group-deeded items. I'm getting reports right and left from users of the DreamTech Teleport System that they can no longer edit their "beamscript", which they need to do if they want to add/remove/change their list of destinations, and this is in a HUD that isn't group deeded (I don't think you can group deed an attachment). Just verified it for myself with an alt -- there's definitely a problem here.

UPDATE: If I drag the offending script into my inventory, I can then edit it, and then drag the modified copy back into the HUD. I just can't directly edit it inside the HUD like I used to be able to do for the last year and some months...

Anyhow, at least I now have a workaround I can tell people when they IM me.

UPDATE2: Unfortunately, the script in the HUD is supposed to have "Running" unchecked, but when you copy it out, edit it, then copy it back, it ends up running. Whether it's due to the asset server or the update, this really needs to get fixed.

As was said before -- this has nothing to do with deeding.

Hi all,

I hope it's okay to resurrect this thread with my issue. My partner and I are starting to really get into scripting and are creating little objects and scripts on our own land. We are having a couple of issues though:

1 - Neither of us can view the scripts on objects deeded to the our group despite us both being in the group and wearing our group tags.
2 - We cannot view the scripts in each others objects although we each have permission to edit each others objects.

The error message in both cases is "Insufficient permission to view scripts".

Now, given we are new to scripting and also pretty new to owning our own land (deeded to our group with all permissions based on our group) I am prepared to accept we may have got a setting wrong somewhere but if anyone could point me in a direction to start looking that would be great.

Cheers,

SJ

Once it's group deeded, you don't own it any more. That means you can't see the notecards or the scripts inside. It isn't "yours" any more. Take the group deeded item and re-rezz it.

You'll be better off just setting the item to group and not deeding it unless deeding is required by the functionality of the scripted object.

Try going into the script's properties and checking the Share with Group box. I've had to do this for ages in order to view scripts/notecards in things that are deeded to my own group.

Is there a way to get it back once you have deeded it to a group? Or is it lost to you in the virtual world forever?

if an item is deeded to a group and you return it (do not delete it) it should return to the person who owned it and deeded it to group.

buying it is also another option heh

(return at own risk, with SL being as borked as it has been, who knows what might happen)

return always worked for me

Yes, I returned the things to get them back into my inventory, but arent they still deeded to the group? That was what I was wondering, can you make them your own again or are they always deeded to the group. Or once you take them or return them, is the person that took them the new owner and not the group? Did that make any sense?
