Is there a way to set the environment on a single parcel, or is it a estate only thing? I would love for anyone wandering along to get a feel of the theme of my parcel,a nd being able to have it set to perminatly stay at nearly night, but i can't afford to rent or an estate, just enough for the monthly account.

You're not missing anything, it's the whole sim or nothing.

If it's on Mainland (which it sounds like it is) then you stuck with what LL has provided.

Even a full sim if it's mainland as someone else said, keeps the terrain type it came with. You'd need an estate/island to change that.

What most people do on mainland is buy trees and perhaps sculpty or mega prim textured terrain, and change the 'season' that way. If you want people to set their viewer to midnight or any other type of lighting, say that in chat as soon as they land, or on a note card they can take, etc.

It was probably done like that so the mainland didn't end up a patchwork quilt of snow, sand, grass, dirt...

Renting isn't always expensive, and you wouldn't have to have a premium account to rent so you could save on the fee. Check out the Winterfell sims where it is always twilight. They are well worth a visit even if you're not thinking of moving there.
