In the absence of anythng much else to do today, I thought I'd have a foray into voice. Normally I don't voice (being a bit afraid of it all), but one of my friends has just been on a 3 week road trip in RL with a guy she met on SL, and I thought it would be easier for us to catch up about it rather than typing. So, I plugged in my microphone, and went off to one of the Help islands where I thought there would be someone chatting.
It all works, but everyone was talking total rubbish. 3 people talking about how tall they were for 15 minutes!!! Just like the last time I tried it, in fact. Anyway, my question is, if you are standing in a group of people, how do you know who is talking? If I talk, I get little green radar stripes from that white dot above my head, but no-one else seemed to.
Oh god, now they are singing!!!!
/me runs away quickly
Edited to add - ignore me, I figured it out! Helps if you set it up properly in the first place

there's normally a little green bar type thingy that appears just over the persons head when they are actively talking (where the white dot is to indicate they have voice enabled)
Also you can use the active speakers window, a little beacon flashes next to the person curently speaking.

There are those, yes; but when you're standing in a room full of people using voice, it becomes next to impossible to tell who is saying what - especially if you have one or more of those dreaded hot-keyed (leaves the mic on all the time, and uses speakers instead of headphones) people in the room with you.
It's one of the reasons I truly hate voice - I'm hard of hearing as it is, and I find the experience very disorienting.

Isn't there a window that opens too somewhere that lists the names of the people as they are speaking?
I found the whole thing disconcerting and haven't tried it since the first time, though I did enjoy the melange of accents.
