about that post in that forum...

that not was banning , it sthe "effort " f-rom linden lab to avoid SQLinjections, some words are not allowed to preventing it, you can find more about this in search ;)

While Boy *may* have been banned, you should note that the error message quoted over the other side of the tracks arises when a post contains combinations of words that sound like SQL statements, for example when you type the word f r o m after the word s e l e c t. Boy might want to try a simpler test post?

Something that sounds a bit naughty. I'm not sure we're allowed to talk about it here..

There is some bug in this ancient version of the forums software that could allow clever and misguided people to 'inject' a virus (or some such beastie) into the forums server using SQL commands.

Because the method of doing that requires specific words to be used in specifc order, the forums software just automatically rejects all posts that contains those words in the right order.

Yeah, but the question is not if or if not we can post this here. The question is why has the forum software not been updated since that bug became known 2 years ago or so whereas a fixed release is available.

Coincidence that I got knocked out by this bug today, but I certainly think SL should take action and fix this s**t ASAP.

I don't know if they plan to replace the forums with it, but LL had been testing software for a "Yahoo Answers" type area, where residents can answer each others questions, supposedly. I've never liked that format - it's not friendly to extended discussions.

Some of the SL Mentors have been involved in the testing - perhaps someone here could share how that's been going?

My suspicion is that there won't be any changes to this forum for the purpose of making them nicer for the users, and that if there are any changes they will be more jury-rigged fixes for security problems yet to be discovered. If there is a new forum it won't be something nice like an up-to-date vBulletin forum but will be part of the Clearspring/Jive software and won't be to the liking of those who like this type of forum.

That's just my feeling, I have no evidence to back it up.

I would encourage folk to investigate http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-156 - reported in June 2007. It is instructive in terms of how it has been ignored.

There is a three-stage process that one goes through here. Firstly, one is outraged and posts on every available list or other avenue to try to get X done. (It is not done.) Secondly, one thinks "I need to be more diplomatic here, attacking the Lindens will not get anything done and may discourage them, I will be polite." (It is not done.) Thirdly, one realises that it doesn't actually make any difference either way whether one attacks Whoever Linden personally and sends them a poo in the post, or whether one gives massages to every Linden who might be involved - that thing that they said they were doing, and occasionally say "yes we are working on it" about, they aren't and they're not and your input does not matter.

At that stage, one might as well say whatever one wants.
