I'm not complaining - so before all you turkeys say, "It's a release candidate! Stop whining, there's supposed to be bugs!", I know. I know.
I dl'ed the latest release candidate on Sunday and played with it for a while. I like a few of the new features, and a few, not so much, but the main problem I'm having is that the screen flickers periodicaly. It always happens when I hit the alt key, like if I'm going to cam around. For a split second it flicks to black, then back. Sometimes it happens when I'm walking and it seems to randomly happen when I'm just standing around. In some areas, SL is unusable because it flickers so much, but it's not more than a minor annoyance in others.
Any ideas? This didn't happen with the Windlight release and it never happened with the main viewer. Windlight, by the way, worked perfectly for me.

I think it may help to have an idea what your system, particularly video specs are. I'm using 1.19.1 RC on both Windows and Ubuntu linux and not seeing that at all.
My windows machine is a duo-core Intel with 2GB and a 512mb nVidia GeForce 8600 GTX
Ubuntu box is 3.1ghz Celeron, 1gb with 256mb GeForce 6800GT

Good point - I should have posted those.
Athlon quad-core CPU 2x 512mb 8600 GTs in SLi 2 gigs of RAM Running XP and nothing in the background that should really be stressing the computer at all.

My screen has always had this problem - where the prims or land have certain areas that blink black- regardless of which viewer candidate I'm running.

From: Stormy Dyrssen My screen has always had this problem - where the prims or land have certain areas that blink black- regardless of which viewer candidate I'm running. I was told last night that this happens when there are two overlapping prims and the textures are both trying to occupy the same space. In my case, the entire screen flicks to black and back on, like if you could kill the power and put it back on really fast.

Try changing the affinity of the SL process so that it only uses one core. Also try switching off VBO in the graphics (advanced settings) and/or object occlusion from the Advanced menu (the new Debug menu). Matthew

That's something separate, and you can see the two textures fighting for dominance.

Matthew Thanks Matthew! I'll give that a shot. Lindal - you're right. The flicker to black can't be a texture issue. The thing Stormy was talking about was. The flicker to black is the entire viewer, not just a prim or whatever has that particular texture.

Matthew Object object occlusion did the trick! Thanks, Matthew.
