Group tiering down

I have group land in one sim, I sold off 75% of it and am wondering if I need to wait until after my next billing date to tier down. I know I will be billed for the month on the largest amount of land I owned. I'm assuming I need to keep that tier that I have dedicated to the group in place to cover the payment Jan. 4.

Is this correct? Am I missing anything?

I'd tier down now instead of waiting. If you try to tier down now and still own too much land, it'll say "no". If you wait until the end of the billing cycle, they will probably charge you the same (higher tier) on the following cycle, because you didn't tier down...

I'm still getting my head around this but as I recall it's not what you set as a tier level on the web that is important so much as how much tier you have donated to your group.

Tier donations to a group count as used user tier irrespective of whether the group actually owns that amount of land.

If the group currently shows an amount of land available for purchase you can reduce your group tier donation. Remember the group gets a 10% bonus so if it shows 1126 available you can reduce your donation by 1024.

This will reduce your own used tier. You will still be billed for the max amount of tier used (personal+group tier donation) for the past month at the next billing cycle but the following one will be at the reduced level.

Clear? OK - can someone explain it to me again

I agree with Sindy, if your donations aren't needed get them out of there.

OK - I re-read your original question

If you sold 75% of the group land the group will now show an equivalent amount of land available for purchase.

You can now reduce your group tier contribution until this equals zero. That means there will be sufficient tier donated for what the group currently owns and your personal tier usage will be reduced.

The reclaimed tier donation will show as land available for purchase to you. You can select the lowest tier level on the web that covers your current amount of owned land + group donations. This selection does not set the amount of tier you pay but triggers the warning if you try to purchase land that would put you in a higher tier bracket.

If you do NOT reduce your group tier donation then you will continue to be billed for that tier regardless of whether the group owns that amount of land or not.

Thank you all for your response. I knew there was a catch 22 in their somewhere, and it looks like I was setting myself up for it. THANK YOU, you saved me a bunch of dollars.

If there is anything any of you would like from my store or from SLX just let me know. It's yours. Or request a Christmas present for a friend. :) Some of my critters are on SLX but not the store yet as I'm in the process of moving them. I will try to do that this afternoon or tomorrow.

Sincerely, ArchTx

In a nutshell, it's not the tier level that's set in your account that they charge you on. They only charge you on the land you've owned in the billing period. BUT, if you've deeded tier to a group, you will be charged on that, even though you don't personally own any land for that tier.

Owning land for only an instant is counted as owning land in the billing period.

It means that there's no need to tier down before the next billing date. Even so, it's best to err on the side of caution and tier down :)
