Tying in Chinese??? |

Lately I've taken to, for some reason, typing in Chinese. At least I think its Chinese. I use the alt key for a lot of different functions in SL, and on occasion, I accidentally hit a key (don't ask me what key - I don't have a clue), and a box pops up and suddenly I'm typing in the box and Chinese characters pop out. When I hit my return key, the Chinese inserts itself into my text box instead of what I actually typed. When I do this, I can't revert back to English unless I exit Second Life and restart. Anyone have a clue what key I'm hitting to start this, and how I can stop it from happening aside from exiting Second Life?

I sometimes type in Spanish - I just go off and it corrects itself. Check your fonts???

I imagine you've found a hotkey for the language setting... check the menus for alt combinations that trigger that menu...

Void is right. You are triggering hitting a hotkey combination for language setting. I do it sometimes too by mistake. On my computer it is ctrl and spacebar pressed at the same time that toggles it on and off. You don't have to restart or even exit Second Life if you can figure out what combination of keys it is that triggers it. Try the ctrl spacebar and see what happens.

I doubt that you'll find it in any of the SL client menus; it's more likely a setting in your OS.
On my configuration of XP, it's the combination of left SHIFT+ALT (just those two keys), sometimes the left SHIFT followed by the left SHIFT+ALT combo. Kitsy ^.^ _____________________

Whoops didn't notice the recommendation to Void's recommendation to check menus. It is the OS. Mine is Vista Ultimate and ctrl spacebar activates the language bar.

Thanks for all the suggestions - had tried to figure out what hot keys (yes, I knew it was a hot key - just couldn't think of the name. I'ma natural blonde, you see), it was I was hitting but couldn't figure it out. I'll try the control space thing (that might be it ... I thought it was alt something) tonight.

Just posted under my alt - oopsie - but deleted it. So thanks AGAIN to everyone who responded (from the correct avatar) ... I'll try the hot key thing tonight (I did know it was a hot key - just couldn't figure out which). =)
