Hi - I have a forum avatar (as you can see). It's a piece of clip art I found.
I've been trying to take a picture of my SL avatar to use instead, but every time I shrink it down to 50x50 pixels, it looks like a messy blob.
I don't think the problem is my grahpics card. I think it's the way I take the picture.
Does anyone have hints?
[Added later: I gave it a couple of tries. 50x50 is pretty small! I guess I will have to keep trying until I take a picture that looks good that tiny.]

1. Take an inworld snapshot. Make it a closeup, head and shoulders only. Tight as you can reasonably get. Take it at full screen resolution.
2. Save it directly to your hard drive.
3. Open in Photoshop or your picture editor of choice.
4. Crop it even tighter, if you can.
5. Change the image size to 50x50 and save the result as a .bmp file.
6. Upload said file to the forums.

I believe the profile picture is 4 to 3 aspec ratio. 320 by 240 or 640 by 480 will both work for you. Crop your picture using any 4 to 3 resolution ratio and you won't get the distortion induced by SL resizing it for you.

Sharpen the final, clipped and re-sized image too. It helps.
