Okay, let's see if I can explain this. I need a place to take some vendor art photos. The product is a robot avatar, and the background environment I'm hoping to find, is sort of something out of anime like Macross, Akira or Megazone23. I can show you the sort of photos I've used in the past, on a similar, related avatar.

P.S. these photos are of the F-Type robot avatar, available in my shop. The "extra awesome reflections" are made by a debug setting called "RenderDynamicReflections. (no, I didn't use that setting on my vendor art).

These photos were taken at the commercial sim of a friend, before that sim was demolished. Now, of course the sim is gone, and I need something not "too dissimilar".

Places I'm NOT looking for are dark "night city" themes.. or super-futuristic like Blade Runner. Places that are extremely glow dependent are not workable, because glow doesn't save on hi-rez snapshots.

Can anyone help me find a shooting location?

Why not just shoot in front of a blank prim wall and photoshop in something appropriate?

Because that's not what I'm doing.

My vendor art generally incoporates both an "isolated" image against a neutral background, AND an "inworld" shot which usually shows the item being used, or in some other way displayed against a "Second Life" environment.

A few of my items have once or twice been criticised (!) for looking so realistic it's hard to beleive it's not a photograph, or heavily photoshopped, or else they think it's a render in a program like Blender. To combat this fear that the picture "looks too good to be true" I try to make sure that people can see that yes, each of my items is a real SL object, and not just a cut-out photo.

Frankly, it's a chore, but I work from a basic template when I do my vendor art, so it only takes a few hours once the photos are done. Plus I've gotten a lot of compliments on my vendors, so why change what works? While I will occassionally mock-up an environment to serve as that background (I made a fake backyard for my BBQ, for example), most of the time, I just need a relatively neutral background.

The problem this time, is that this is the second avatar in a series. And all the vendor art for the first avatar, and it's accessories, were shot in a city location that is, sadly, no longer available. So the new vendor art needs to have a "similar look and feel".

Thankfully, I have been able to locate a sim that will do the job, and I've bookmarked it.

Glad to see you're still doin your thing Winter...that's great work...it really does look too good to be true! I agree w/ Kurt about Bay City...I found a lotta spots that look similar to the third pic you posted there. If you set the sun to midday, Midnight City (by the theatre) has a similar look & feel too. There's also a New York city sim that might fit what you want, but I can't get in-world right now to see exactly which one it was.

Thanks for the mention, Cristalle!

Winter, you're welcome to use Liome and the West Side (Firewake sim). Build is turned on, just with autoreturn. IM CheUnit Fizzle, and he can send you a group invite if you need longer time.

The Liome sim is under a holiday prim crisis right now, but the Firewake sim has more in reserve. :-) The iron Firewake Bridge might make for an interesting backdrop or setting.

I went looking in the debug menu for RenderDynamicReflections in the Cool Viewer, and didn't see it. Any suggestions?

Seems that (at least in 1.20 Cool SL which I use) the option no longer exists. Those screenshots were from August, so it's possible that the old semi-reliable DynamicReflections had to go for some reason only known to Linden Lab. Or it's possible that the CoolSL build is somehow disabling this "feature". Or maybe it just got renamed.

Sigh, oh well.

You're not missing too much. They were cool, but added a lot of slowness to the client. Windlight combined with "shiny" and a little "glow" can do some pretty awesome things.

Winter, did you take these pics yet? And where did you take them? Curious to see them.
