I am not a big joiner in fact I only belong to a couple of groups ,one less now as I quit a few weeks ago because of constant and inane spam.I have seen a solution here before but can't find it.I still get a dozen or so emails and stuff a night and it drives me silly.Any thoughts and why is this not automatic?

Also, when messages come in to a group chat window during your logon, you can close just that communication tab and it will keep you from seeing the group chat until your next login. You have to remember that if a group is a Social group, that chatting in the window is not necessarily Spam. Spam is defined as 'unsolicited advertising' - which is not the same thing as people chatting.

after you've typed that message in the IM chat section, don't press submit and you'll stop spamming.

i found out that even after you quit a group, you can still receive their spam through the subscribe-o-matic baords. you have to go to the store that is spamming you, click the board and choose 'unsubscribe'.
i have recently quit groups of friends, because there is just too much coming through, and every contact is an email.

From: Michelle Thurston Don't you have to have clicked on the sign and confirmed that you wanted to sign up for the list to get SoM-type messages? som yes hippo style, nope if you have not set up an account at the hippo website and chose the block option, anyone can add you to their hippo group (and they do not have to put out a sign) so you would have to log into the hippo website, set up and account then leave their group that way I say just go to the site, and set up the account and block then ppl can not add you without your permission there are some cases when this type of system (being able to add ppl without them clicking a board) is useful and on the up and up, but sadly, those cases are far outweighed by the chances of someone adding you without permission.
