Is there any way to tell what is a linden restart vs. estate owner? If so, how? I am wondering if recent restart was estate owner. Got a two minute warninig.

you could just ask the estate owner?

Is there a reason you wish to know so badly, since you don't believe them? I don't think a restart could really affect anything that much.

Quick answer: They are both the same. And look the same.

Though concierge can, but almost never ever will do a no warning restart.

Also Rolling restarts give the specific message "Going down for maintinance"

thanks for the info. they do have a rather large effect when they happen during my events :-) and i am having a tussle with the estate owner around another matter. I did get a two minute warning. Later, someone said that lindens give five minutes so I became suspicious.

ok Since I can speak up about this personally. Anytime I have requested a restart from out of world on a problem sim, they give 5 minutes while the normal way of doing it. I log in world drop to the sim, estate tools>debug>restart region=2 minute warning. but they both do the same thing if thats what you where wondering. also we have no way of controlling when or how long it gets restarted thats built into the server software the sim runs on.

Yes, user-initiated restarts are always 2 minutes, but I have seen linden restarts where you got a 5 minute warning. I don't remember what happens during rolling restarts. But those only happen every once in a while anyway,

This happened to me once by accident. It was during a fashion show and did not realize the show was going on at the time I entered the region. All I knew was it was laggy and I could not hardly move like normal, So I quickly went into the estate tools and clicked the restart. Immediately the restart window popped down and something caught my eye, I looked over and saw tons of avatars all standing around. I delayed the restart as quick as I could. It is now something I look for before restarting regions. Just sharing this story because the estate owner may not have realized what they did.

I think a Linden would most likely arrive at the region "in person" to restart it. Does anyone agree or disagree?

Same 5 minutes with a countdown on rolling, so people who log in after the first will know to TP out or log off.

When I have my mainland restarted via concierge service, they usually tell me give it 10 minutes. I have seen both the 2 minute and 5 minute warning. A Linden never appears on or near the sim when it is restarted.

They have to be, or they would never be updated, or they would still be running system software from 2006.

I have seen a zero-warning Linden restart of a region. It was probably an exception -- it was a brand new openspace that had been delivered, but the ticket to move it to its requested location had not yet been honored. When the Linden was ready to move it, the message said something like "My apologies. I'm restarting to move this region" or something like that. And I was disconnected. I imagine this is an exception case, with two avatars in the region who were expecting the move to occur as soon as possible. Now if only he had moved it to the correct place on the first try... :)

I requested a restart through a support ticket once, and didn't see a linden come in before I got the 5 minute warning. I guess they could have been there and I didn't see them, but I thought the region was empty (other than myself) at the time.

in general a 2 minute warning means it was done by the Estate Owner or Estate Manager.. not a Linden.

To respond to the OP.

i've \never\ seen a 2 minute warning Linden Restart or Rolling Restart. They are always 5 minutes... or longer. \Except\ when SL really goes to hell, then they sometimes give \no\ warning. ;)

If you are having a tussle with the estate owner that has this person restarting the sim during your events, you really really need to move to a new sim.

Yes, because in tussles of this nature, the estate owner will ALWAYS win. Just FYI.

For a region that's being buggy maybe but for maintenance restarts they usually do them in blocks which I think is an automated process from the home office.
