I just recently started using Windows Vista on two other computers both the 32 and 64 bit versions. I’ve noticed that when viewing the SL forums on my Vista computers that there is a real sluggish response when trying to scroll up and down a page.
I don’t have this problem on this computer which is running Windows XP also I don’t seem to encounter the problem on other web sites when using my Vista machines. All three computers are using IE 8. I just wondered if anyone else has encountered this problem and if there are any remedies.

I spent just over 2 months in 64-bit Vista... 2 months of my life that I'd really like back. (T_T)
I rolled back to XP and was happy ever since. (^_^)
...well...
That is, until I got the Win7x64 RC. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST!!!! XD

I use both Vista and XP, and I don't see any difference between them, except...
With Vista, there's a button in the browser that's something to do with converting pages. The forum is bad when that conversion is turned on. I can't describe it exactly because my Vista machine died recently and hasn't been fixed yet (hard drive died), so I can't see the button at the moment.

Thanks for the reponses. I just noticed that the problem only occurs when the browser is zoomed in beyond 100%. My Vista machines have wide screen monitors running at pretty high resolutions and IE 8 does an auto fit to screen that zooms the page to 156%. That is when the page scrolling gets slugish. Everything is fine at 100% but with my poor eyesght the zoom in ispretty much a necessity I hoping that Windows 7 will make life better on my new 64 bit machine as it has plenty of power with it's i7 975 processor and 12G ram running 2 GPU's in SLI.

People have complained of slow performance in the forums when using IE8.

On my IE8 with Vista, There's a button at the top (to the right of the address bar) right next to Refresh and Stop. It's called something like Compatibility View. If you hit that, it should run smoother.

What you do is go to the 'Performance Information and Tools' control panel. Then click on 'adjust visual effects' on the left hand side and .... TURN EVERYTHING OFF. Never mind that your system will look like Windows 2000 because it's going to run a lot faster.
I would also suggest installing Firefox with the add-ons Adblock Plus and NoScript.

From: Zoha Boa I use firefox ONLY to view the SL forums. For all my other websites I use Internet Explorer. I only use IE to view sites that absolutely require IE and where I have verified the page source doesn't contain any suspect code. It's surprising, sometimes, the places you find dodgy code. Like Google Lively. Google Updater is... well, I won't use any site or application that requires it, period. I disable and remove every updater that doesn't have an option to ONLY run when I request it. Even if it's from Apple or Microsoft... or Red Hat or Debian. I'm not too thrilled about Firefox either. The XPI installer scheme for Firefox extensions bothers me. Safari seems relatively safe if you don't enable the idiot options like 'Open "Safe" files'. I use Camino on the Mac. I don't know any really good minimal browser like that on Windows, alas. Opera maybe.
